Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah monitors safety of Kannadigas stranded in UAE and Bahrain
Taking to social media post 'X', Siddaramaiah said that around 100 Kannadigas are currently stranded in the UAE (Dubai) and nine in Bahrain due to airspace disruptions and flight cancellations. "We are in continuous coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Indian Embassies and Consulates. Our Chief Secretary has written to the Government of India seeking urgent intervention for the safety, assistance and possible repatriation of Kannadigas," he said. "To our brothers and sisters in the affected region -- Please remain calm and strictly follow the advisories issued by local authorities and Indian Embassies. The CM said the Karnataka government stands firmly with them and will continue to take every necessary step to ensure their safety and safe return.

राज्य ब्यूरो, जम्मू। कश्मीर घाटी भर में हो रहे प्रदर्शनों को देखते हुए जम्मू और कश्मीर सरकार ने एहतियात के तौर पर सोमवार से दो दिनों के लिए शिक्षण संस्थानों को बंद करने का निर्णय लिया है। शिक्षा मंत्री सकीना इटू ने कहा कि छात्रों की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करने के लिए सरकार ने एहतियात के तौर पर स्कूलों और सभी उच्च शिक्षण संस्थानों को बंद करने का निर्णय लिया है। मंत्री इटू ने कहा कि हमने स्कूलों, कॉलेजों और विश्वविद्यालयों को दो दिनों के लिए बंद रखने का निर्णय लिया है।मंत्री जी ने यह भी कहा कि सरकार स्थिति पर बारीकी से नजर रख रही है और जमीनी हालात का आकलन करने के बाद ही शिक्षण संस्थानों को फिर से खोलने का फैसला करेगी।गौरतलब है कि दो महीने से अधिक की शीतकालीन अवकाश के बाद सोमवार को आठवीं कक्षा तक के स्कूल फिर से खुलने वाले थे।

New GDP series, with sharper data, and clearer signals for the economy
Last week, the National Statistics Office released the new GDP series, taking another step towards plugging gaps in the country’s data architecture. The series incorporates richer data sources spanning both the formal and informal sectors, revises estimation methodologies, and responds to criticisms of the earlier series. It is better equipped to reflect the evolving structure of the Indian economy and capture its many shifting facets. The new series follows several recent initiatives aimed at improving the accuracy and availability of economic data, including the new inflation series, surveys on household consumption and unincorporated enterprises, and more frequent labour market surveys. However, in nominal terms, the size of the economy is now estimated to be 3.8 per cent lower in 2024-25.

Power consumption in the country grew marginally by 1.86 per cent to 132.99 billion units in February from 130.56 BU a year ago, as the use of heating appliances like geysers and blowers slowed down due to higher-than usual temperature.According to the government data, the peak power demand met or the highest supply during February, also rose slightly to 243.15 GW from 238.06 GW recorded in February 2025.The peak power demand touched an all-time high of about 250 GW in May 2024. The previous all-time peak power demand of 243.27 GW was recorded in September 2023.However, during last summer (April 2025 onwards), the peak power demand was 242.77 GW in June, 2025.According to government estimates, peak power demand was expected to touch 277 GW in the summer of 2025.According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the rainfall all over India in February was the lowest since 2001.Also, no cold waves or cold days prevailed during February.

Crude oil prices on Monday jumped ₹504 to hit a lifetime high of ₹6,596 per barrel in futures trade amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.On the Multi Commodity Exchange, crude oil for April delivery traded higher by ₹504, or 8.27 per cent, at ₹6,596 per barrel in 10,530 lots.Analysts said the escalating tensions in the Middle East kept crude oil prices higher in the futures market.Globally, West Texas Intermediate crude was trading 5.55 per cent higher at $70.74 per barrel, while Brent crude rose 5.86 per cent to $77.14 per barrel in New York.>
