The move aims to resolve the dispute between chief minister Mamata Banerjee and Bengal governor C.V. Ananda Bose, who is also the chancellor of the universities. Chief Justice Kant recorded in Friday’s order the receipt of communication from Justice Lalit regarding the proposal to conduct the interviews for North Bengal University, MAKAUT and Netaji Subhas Open University. However, differences persisted over three universities, prompting the Supreme Court to refer their appointments to the high-powered panel led by Justice Lalit. While acceding to adjournment requests, Chief Justice Kant said the matter would be heard in chambers, rather than in open court.

A 23-year-old woman was raped twice in a day in separate places by her boyfriend and a stranger offering help and then thrown off a four-storey building, leading to her death, in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district, police said on Friday. Police arrested both the accused and booked them under various sections of BNS for kidnapping, rape and murder. He, however, took her to the roof of his rented accommodation at a place in Paradip town and raped her again, the SP said.

HYDERABAD: Researchers at AIG Hospitals have found that inherited genetic susceptibility interacts with lifestyle factors to influence obesity risk among individuals of Indian ancestry. The study, published in the Scientific Reports journal, was led by researchers at AIG Hospitals in collaboration with the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine, University of Luxembourg (Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg), and the Centre for Human Genetics, University of Marburg (Marburg, Germany). The analysis utilised data from Indian-ancestry participants in the UK Biobank alongside an India-recruited cohort developed and genomically profiled at AIG Hospitals. The AIG-led analysis demonstrated a graded pattern of obesity risk across combinations of genetic susceptibility and lifestyle profiles. The statistical interaction between polygenic risk and lifestyle was significant in the larger cohort and showed consistent directional trends in the Indian cohort.

21-year-old hacked by gang near Mambalam
CHENNAI: A 21-year-old history-sheeter was hacked by an unidentified six-member gang in West Mambalam on Thursday evening, triggering panic in the locality. The man is currently admitted to a hospital where he is under treatment. Around 7 pm, as he was eating at a roadside stall on Govindan Road after visiting his wife in West Saidapet, a gang on two-wheelers surrounded and started attacking him. As he tried to flee, they chased and hacked him with sickles. Munis was rescued and admitted to the Royapettah Government Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.

A raga for every mood: Swara Samrat Festival elevates city’s musical spirit - Telegraph India
The three-day festival was inaugurated with a sarod and sitar duet by Abhisek Lahiri (sarod) and Samanwaya Sarkar (sitar). The vocalist, Tushar Dutta, presented Raga Bhimpalasi with his natural flair; this was followed by Raga Vrindavani Sarang and a bhajan. They presented Raga Patdeep with virtuosity and variations that were enhanced by Debjit Patitundi on the tabla and Patri Satish Kumar on the mridangam. The senior artist, Dalia Raut, along with Abanti and Sohini Majumder, entertained the audience with the charm of a thumri, especially in the ragas, Mishra Khamaj and Mishra Bihag.
