A bipartisan delegation of US lawmakers arrived in Dharamshala, India on June 18 to meet Tibetan leader in exile, Dalai Lama. The delegation was led by House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, and included former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The visit from the US delegation came after US Congress passed the Resolve Tibet Act which strengthened US support for Tibet. Further commenting on the US’ ‘Resolve Tibet Act’, Chinese FM spox reiterated China’s stance on Xizang province. In what appeared to be a tough statement for US, Chinese FM spox later said, “No one and no force should ever attempt to destabilize Xizang”.

Five people have died in Delhi in the past 72 hours as the national capital continues to reel under a severe heatwave. In Noida, too, more than 14 people have died in the last 24 hours due to suspected heat stroke, the health department said. A 70-year-old man from Bihar who had missed his train and was roaming in the station was another victim of heat stroke. Most of these patients are suffering from electrolyte deficiency, heat stroke, fever of more than 105 degrees and extreme dehydration. The number of patients suffering from heat stroke is increasing on an average in different private hospitals and small clinics in Delhi.

A US Congressional delegation led by House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul arrived in Himachal Pradesh's Dharamsala on Tuesday to meet Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama. The delegation comprised former US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Congress members Mariannette Miller, Gregory Meeks, Nicole Malliotakis, Jim McGovern and Ami Bera. The delegation is on a two-day visit and will meet the Dalai Lama on Wednesday morning, officials said.

Parts of Northern India including the national capital are currently grappling with intensive heatwave conditions. RML Hospital MS Dr Ajay Shukla on June 19 said that 22 patients have been admitted to the hospital and 5 have lost their lives due to suspected heatstroke. Further, he said that they have received a total of 45-50 patients and around 7 people have died since the beginning of the heatwave situation.
