A senior Ukrainian presidential aide on Wednesday said North Korea was helping Russia kill Ukrainian civilians and called for greater international isolation of both countries. The United States and its allies have accused North Korea of providing ammunition and missiles to help Russia's war and Ukraine has reported finding fragments of North Korean munitions on the battlefield. Deliveries of North Korean artillery shells to Russia were helping its forces maintain a "high intensity" of attacks, Podolyak said. The aide blasted the "absolute incapacity" of international sanctions on Russia and North Korea. "It is obvious that the restrictive measures imposed on Russia and North Korea are not enough.

Senior photojournalist Nissar Ahmad, who was associated with The Hindu for 25 years, died of cancer in Srinagar on Wednesday. Ahmad, 59, was admitted to the Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital (SMHS) hospital a few days ago but his health condition started deteriorating on June 18. He was surrounded by immediate family members when he breathed his last at the hospital on Wednesday noon. A court in Russia’s far eastern city of Vladivostok on Wednesday sentenced an American soldier arrested earlier this year to three years and nine months in prison on charges of stealing and threats of murder, Russian news reports said.Staff Sgt. India will witness below-normal monsoon rainfall in June this year, the weather department has said. JUNE RAINFALL 20 PER CENT BELOW AVERAGEThe country has received 20 per cent deficient rains since the southwest monsoon set in over Kerala on May 30, with the rain-bearing system making no significant progress between June 12 and 18, the weather department said. India received 64.5 mm of rainfall between June 1 and 18 which is 20 per cent less than the long-period average (LPA) of 80.6 mm, it said. The monsoon is critical for India's agricultural landscape, with 52 per cent of the net cultivated area relying on it. June and July are considered the most important monsoon months for agriculture because most of the sowing for the Kharif crop takes place during this period.

China is accelerating its nuclear weapons buildup and currently has 500 warheads, significantly more than India's 172 and Pakistan's 170. This growth marks the fastest expansion globally, with some warheads on high operational alert. The nuclear stockpiles stand at: Russia (4,380 warheads), US (3,708), France (290), UK (225), Israel (90), and North Korea (50). An estimated 3,904 of these warheads are deployed with missiles and aircraft, with the rest being kept in storage.

The U.S. State Department has approved the possible sale to Taiwan of drones and missiles for an estimated $360 million, the Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency said. China has been stepping up military pressure against Taiwan, including staging war games around the island last month after the inauguration of Lai Ching-te as president. The sale includes Switchblade 300 anti-personnel and anti-armour loitering munitions and related equipment for an estimated cost of $60.2 million, and ALTIUS 600M-V drones and related equipment for an estimated cost of $300 million, the agency added. Peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait require goodwill from China, the ministry added. "It is hoped that the People's Liberation Army will stop its oppressive military operations around Taiwan and jointly contribute to regional stability."
