The Lagos State Police Command on Monday revealed the identity of a 22-year-old who allegedly doused a sound engineer, David Imoh, with petrol as he was lynched in the Lekki area of the state. David was allegedly beaten and set ablaze by motorcyclists in the Admiralty area of Lekki in Lagos on May 12, 2022. All six suspects were paraded before the press by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Abiodun Alabi, fdc, mnim, psc on May 20, 2022. A seventh suspect, Usman Abubakar, aged 22 (not the mastermind), who literally poured petrol on the victim, was eventually arrested the next day. This brings the total number of arrested suspects to seven.

National Consultative Front (NCFront), umbrella body of the ‘3 Force’ Movement and Political Alternatives to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has adopted the Labour Party (LP) as its mega party for ‘3rd Force’ stakeholders and allies for the 2023 elections. The group, in a statement, yesterday, said the adoption followed the new rapprochement between the leadership of the Labour Movement and the hierarchy of the Labour Party. It added that the formal endorsement comes on the heels of the recent successful meetings and activities of the separate political commissions of the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) with their allies like the Femi Falana, who led The Political Alternative Movement (TPAM) in the civil society, towards repositioning the LP as the People’s Alternative Platform for rescuing Nigeria ahead of the 2023 general elections. The statement reads: “With the adoption of Labour Party as our 3rd Force Mega Party penultimate week, the NCFront has since commenced the fusion of its structures of over 20 million members and supporters nationwide into the Labour Party. “Therefore, with the novel synergy between the Labour Party and the NCFront, the convening platform of the 3rd Force Movement, which is also today the largest political mass movement in the country, Nigerians can rest assured that the glorious future we all desire for our dear country, is now achievable by 2023, especially with the brewing implosion hovering over the ruling cartel of APC and PDP, which will soon burst into unpreventable disintegration after their party primaries.”The group added that an inclusive Consensus Technical Committee to screen presidential aspirants and other candidates of ‘3rd Force’ allied parties towards the adoption of a single line of candidates across all 2023 elections, will be set up next month (June) after the conclusion of all party primaries.”

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Sunday met privately with 69 All Progressives Congress delegates from the Kaduna State. The Vice President is also one of the presidential aspirants under the platform of APC for the 2023 presidential election. Speaking with journalists shortly after meeting with the delegates, Osinbajo said he had a good interaction with the delegates. “We talked about a wide range of issues, including economy, security, education and health care,” he said. The Lagos State Government has vowed to prosecute the missing developer, identified as Fumble, who was said to be in charge of the three-storey building that collapsed and killed four labourers on Alayaki Lane, Freeman Street, Lagos Island, Lagos State. That building was not approved, they asked the builders to stop building but they refused to stop and started building at night and weekends. Emergency responders including the National Emergency Management Agency; Lagos State Emergency Management Agency; Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services; men of the Nigerian Police Force, officials of the Nigeria Red Cross, among others, stormed the scene to commence rescue operation. The collapsed building under construction was located within a compound and it was a frame structure as at the time of the unfortunate collapse. In a follow-up reaction, Farinloye said, “The building was bequeathed to the family members and some awarded it to a developer who was converting the bungalow building into a three-storey building before it collapsed.

Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra has condemned the killing and beheading of Mr Okechukwu Okoye, a member of the state House of Assembly and Director of his campaign organisation, Mr Cyril Chiegboka. …Recover AK47 rifles, ammunitionTen suspected kidnappers cum armed robbers have been neutralised by officers of the Delta State Police Command in a sting operation carried out at their hideouts around the Kwale area of the state on Saturday night. PUNCH Metro gathered that the sting operation was effected by combined teams of the State Anti-kidnapping/Cybercrime Squad, Dragon patrol teams, Rapid Response Squad operatives and Anti-cult Volunteers from Agbor, Ekwoma, Igbodo, Ibusa, Abavo, and Kwale respectively. However, due to the superior firepower of the police, 10 of the suspected kidnappers cum armed robbers were successfully neutralised, while others escaped with gunshot injuries. Five AK 47 rifles, six magazines and 117 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered from the criminals. The CP stated that the Command would not relent in its effort towards arresting and ensuring that the fleeing hoodlums were brought to book.

World basketball body FIBA has warned Nigeria faces sanctions following the country’s decision to withdraw from international competitions for two years. FIBA stated this in a letter addressed to factional Nigeria Basketba Federation president Musa Ahmadu-Kida signed by Jaime Lamboy, Head of Legal, FIBA and dated May 18, 2022. ), had given approval, with immediate effect, to withdraw Nigeria from all international basketball competitions for two years, following lingering leadership rift in the NBBF. “As you already are aware, Nigeria is due to participate in the following FIBA competitions in the upcoming months: FIBA 2023 Basketball World Cup Qualifiers (FBWC23 Qualifiers) FIBA 2022 Women’s Basketball World Cup (FWBWC22)“As you are aware, any withdrawal of Nigeria from the abovementioned competitions will trigger potential disciplinary sanctions as per the FIBA Internal Regulations. Gunmen have abducted a farmer, Chukwujekwu Uzozie, in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State. A family source said Uzozie was taken to an unknown destination and no contact has been made by his abductors. It was gathered that Uzozie was a Special Adviser to a former chairman of Nnewi South Local Government Council. According to the source, members of St Andrew’s Church Umuoham where the victim worships have organised special prayers for his release and quick recovery of his only son. The state police spokesman, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident and said that a manhunt had been launched for the abductors.

Suspected herders have killed no fewer than five people in Guma local council of Benue State. “The Fulani herders invaded Tse Alashi, Kaambe community in Guma local council around 1:00 pm today (Friday). Confirming the report, Chairman of Guma local council, Caleb Aba, said the suspected herders stormed the community in the afternoon. Some Fulani herders invaded a community called Tse Alashi and killed three people who were working on their farms. The people were on their farms working when the herders surrounded them and killed them,” he said in a telephone interview.
