As the Nigerian music industry continues to soar within the halo of the global spotlight, many conversations have turned towards one direction: how do we sustain its momentum? Today, the music industry generates about 23.1 billion U.S. dollars worldwide and is a thriving sector in the entertainment scene of many countries, Nigeria inclusive. It is in this intersection between strategic A&R’ing and creative distribution that we can safely hack the recipe for sustaining the momentum of Afrobeats’ growth,” Abikoye tells Weekend Beats in a chat. He also advised that more attention should be given to a plethora of minority sounds in Africa, to consolidate the efforts Afrobeats has made in achieving a global breakthrough for the African music industry. His latest feats include his involvement in presenting the idea of Ladipoe featuring Buju on the 2021 hit song titled, Feeling, and also facilitated a publishing deal between Ozedikus, London and Sony Music Publishing France & BlueSky Publishing France.

The one who was sexually abusing me was in her 30s at the time while the other one was 28. He narrated to our correspondent how he was sexually abused by his elder sister’s friend when he was in primary school. A 2014 survey by The Cece Yara Foundation also stated that Nigerian boys are almost never abused by strangers. Eighty-nine per cent of the inmates were abused as a child implying that they had become sexually active at an early age. In that wise, there’s the need for parents to treat the boys the same way they will treat a sexually abused female.

Fighting in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo over the past week between the army and the M23 rebel group has forced more than 72,000 people from their homes, the United Nations said on Friday. The M23, a rebellion claiming to represent the interests of ethnic Tutsis in eastern Congo, is staging its largest offensive since a 2012-2013 insurrection that captured vast swathes of the countryside. Of the 72,000 who have fled, about 7,000 reportedly crossed into neighbouring Uganda, the U.N. Eastern Congo has experienced near-constant conflict since 1996 when Rwanda and other neighbouring states invaded in pursuit of Hutu militiamen who had participated in the 1994 Rwandan genocide. Congo has 5.6 million internally displaced persons, the most in Africa, according to U.N. figures.

The Imo State Commissioner for Petroleum Resources, Goodluck Opiah reportedly said for instance that: “Government will no longer treat those who engage in illegal oil bunkering with kid gloves. One of the major threats to the degradation and pollution of the oil bearing communities is the indiscriminate site of oil bunkering opportunities. Also, the oil bearing communities are given an indelible miserable mark as the aquatic life and lands are rendered useless for farmers and fishermen. It is also puzzling that the people and government know those behind illegal bunkering activities in the country. The Imo illegal bunkering tragedy should not by any means end with the usual hullabaloo of lamentation, condemnation and empty threats.

Meanwhile, Peter Obi has been discussing with the NNPP but has not joined the party, The PUNCH learnt on Wednesday night. “What might happen is that the politics of 2023 might turn to regional politics. There is a possibility that Ike Ekweremadu, Enyinnaya Abaribe and Peter Obi might form an alliance under another party in the South East. “If Asiwaju Bola Tinubu doesn’t get the APC ticket, he might also go back to South-West with the Social Democratic Party. So, these three parties might become the big parties representing the regions in 2023.”Copyright PUNCH.

The Nigeria Police Force has given a reason for the arrest of ace broadcaster and owner of Agidigbo FM, Oriyomi Hamzat. In a statement on Thursday, the police said Hamzat was arrested in connection with a case of cyberbullying without stating who was bullied. The police’s reaction was contained in a statement by its spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, titled, ‘Oriyomi Hamzat was arrested by police with warrant – Force PRO’. The Director of International Tennis Academy, Godwin Kienka, has labelled the sports ministry’s appointment of an Interim Management Committee ‘illegal’, The PUNCH reports. The sports ministry Monday announced it had set up a 10-man committee to oversee Nigerian basketball, following a two-year ban on international basketball. The appointment came two weeks after sports minister, Sunday Dare, said a committee would be set up to oversee basketball leagues in the country, after announcing the withdrawal of Nigeria from all international basketball competitions for a period of two years, following the lingering leadership rift in the Nigeria Basketball Federation. “This is an instigated crisis by the ministry, which is not in the interest of basketball and interest of sports generally. Basketball was progressing and we had a great time heading into the international tournaments.

What has happened so far paints a grim picture of a nation where both the government and the governed have lost their humanity and no matter whatever happens to anyone, life goes on as no one bats any eyelids. In all that has happened however, some dramatic personae in the whole saga are perhaps guilty of displaying the most high sense of irresponsibility. How would anyone imagine that some of them even obtained the nomination form to vie for the position of the president of the country? Again, it’s difficult to believe that the Ministry of Transport is planning to reopen the rail lines after the repair works are completed. Jide Oyewusi, the coordinator of Ethics Watch International, wrote in from Lagos.
