Scientists said the ozone’s recovery should also serve as proof that societies can join to solve environmental problems and combat climate change. “Ozone action sets a precedent for climate action,” World Meteorological Organization Secretary-General Petteri Taalas said in a statement. Still, it is possible forthcoming data on ozone levels prompts some concerns that the ozone layer is not recovering as quickly as the report concludes, he said. Progress would likely also be slowed if humans pursue geoengineering to reverse global warming by injecting sunlight-reflecting particles into the upper atmosphere, Newman said. “The Antarctic ozone hole is the poster child of ozone depletion,” Newman said.

Ayo Olukotun: Everything Will Rest OpinionsShareThe yellow ball of the sky sits on the clouds, watching mortal affairs Some say the sun has blessed their day when it shines Others complain it is too harsh It retreats and goes home into the skies after its job is done. Ayo, the man, the myth himself, your demise is nothing short of a great loss to the community and the country at large. Yet, the sadness your deathbrings also insistently asks: To whom do we turn for comfort and your kind of intellect? It is painful, but the truth remains that society suffers when the likes of yourself are not around to guide its affairs. We mourn to demonstrate how priceless the soul we have lost is and how embittered we are by the loss.

The murder of Kehinde and Bukola Fatinoye, a few hours after the new year, has made me pensive and downcast ever since. That dastardly murder is one event of 2023 that throws me into spasms whenever my mind reflects on it. As they escaped the scene, the killers dragged with them the Fatinoyes’ 23-year-old son, Oreoluwa, who they abducted. Very few murders of that cruel brew have made my heart this brittle, getting me inconsolable and distraught. The killing of the Fatinoyes has all the trappings of revenge, cult or drug peddlers’ assassination.
