Dumebi Kachikwu, presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has called on Nigerians to be vigilant as COVID-19 makes a comeback. Kachikwu gave this warning in a statement to disclose that he had tested positive for the coronavirus, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported. He said that he was isolating and had cancelled all public events till he received a negative report. He called on Nigerians not to take the coronavirus for granted as infection rates have risen rapidly all over the world in the last few weeks. We must not allow political rallies to become COVID spreaders and reverse the gains made in combating the virus.

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have rescued three teenagers who were lured into prostitution in the Ikorodu area of the state after being allegedly transported from Akwa Ibom under the guise of employment. The girls, who were all brought to Lagos from Akwa Ibom State were starved for some days to force them into prostitution. This was contained in a statement signed and made available to Tribune Online by the spokesperson of the state police command, Benjamin Hundeyin. ““The girls were rescued on January 8, 2023, at about 0600hrs when a patrol team noticed their suspicious movements within the area,” he added. “Upon questioning, the girls revealed that they were fleeing the custody of a mistress who brought them from Akwa Ibom to Lagos under the guise of employment.

US President Joe Biden said Thursday “a small number” of classified documents had been found at his private residence, prompting calls for a congressional investigation into the alleged mishandling of official papers. “People know I take classified documents and classified material seriously,” Biden told reporters Thursday. “They discovered a small number of documents with classified markings in storage areas and file cabinets in my home and my personal library. “When is the FBI going to raid the many homes of Joe Biden, perhaps even the White House,” Trump had earlier written on his social media site Truth Social. In a bid to defuse accusations of political interference, Attorney General Merrick Garland has named a Chicago federal prosecutor appointed during the Trump administration to review the lost Biden documents.

Akpan emerged overall winner from three selected across the country through documentations of witchcraft branding reports by Safe Child Africa in partnership with Basic Right Initiative Counsel (BRIC). On his part, the Cross River Council Chairman of NUJ, Mr. Nsa Gill congratulated the award winner for his dedication and making the profession a proud one for the state union. He also thanked Safe Child Africa and BRCI for encouraging journalists who showed commitment in carrying out their duties most especially in the fight against witchcraft branding. The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors has threatened to go on a nationwide strike if the Federal Government does not meet its demands. The association made this known in a letter signed by its president, Dr Emeka Orji, to the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, saying the processes for the strike would commence if the issues were not addressed before its January 24 to 28 National Executive Council meeting. Salary arrears of its members in state tertiary health institutions running into several months in Abia, Imo, Ondo, Ekiti and Gombe states, non-domestication of the Medical Residency Training Act in most states across the federation, among others. Sir, we trust in your fatherly disposition and believe that you will come to our aid and save this nation from this imminent industrial disharmony. The association however commended the efforts of the government through its ministries, departments and agencies in resolving some of the issues raised, but said many of them remained largely unattended to, which has led to nationwide agitations among its members.

Popular social media platform, Instagram, has announced new changes on its home screen, starting from February 2023. The Meta-owned platform, in an update on Monday, revealed that part of the changes would involve the removal of the ‘Shop’ tab from its home screen. Despite the removal, Instagram noted that business owners would still be able to set up and run their shops on the medium. Still, according to him, ‘2023 would, indeed, be a time when we would work to solidify on delivering key strategic priorities’. Nigeria is a country among the 195 countries of United Nations if Taiwan and Western Sahara craving for admission are to be added. Only five of these countries could assert firmly as leaders of the world and they occupy permanent seats in the UN Security Council. The same goes for USA where both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party – GOP, Grand Old Party – had been in the saddle. PMB should tell Nigerians what his SEA means and how it could be sustained devoid of nepotism and cronyism.

The Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) has urged the public to protect their bank details, to prevent being victims of cybercrime. He said that the unit had been raising awareness on the increasing rate of cyber fraud and how to prevent being victims. “To reduce cyber bank fraud, we advise the public never to divulge their bank details to anyone. Johnson told NAN that the unit published cases of bank fraud already prosecuted in court, to deter others who want to engage in the crime. The spokesperson , however, said that the challenge the unit had in combating cyber crime was training.
