The High National Elections Commission (HNEC) welcomed the House of Representatives’ (HoR) procedures to fill the vacant seats on the HNEC's Board, adding in a statement responding to the High Council of State’s rejection of the HoR's move, that the process of filling vacancies is in accordance with the law establishing the HNEC in 2013 and has no connection to the political agreement, which some parties invoke to serve their own agendas. The HNEC said that the statement does not include any demands for the continuation of the current leadership of the institution, but rather presents facts that must be clarified amid campaigns questioning its independence and integrity and attempts to undermine its credibility. It called on "elites and political activists who have joined what it described as a campaign of doubt” to exercise accuracy in conveying facts and to review all details related to the legislation and laws governing its work. Meanwhile, the High Council of State expressed in a statement its rejection of the HoR's vote to fill the vacant seats on the HNEC, describing the move as “unilateral” and marred by “procedural and legal flaws.”The High Council of State reaffirmed its adherence to what was agreed upon between the committees of the two councils, which stipulates replacing the entire HNEC Board to ensure its independence and strengthen confidence in the electoral process. The High Council of State considered that any unilateral step affecting the electoral process constitutes a breach of political consensus, undermines the foundations of partnership between the two councils, and contributes to further division and confusion in the political landscape.

It also aims to open new avenues of knowledge for young people, encouraging constructive dialogue and the exchange of views, and fostering critical thinking and a culture of responsible debate. The Ministry of Youth said the initiative fits within its broader vision to empower young Libyans intellectually, preparing a conscious generation able to participate effectively in shaping the future and contributing positively to national development.

The High Council of State (HCS) has rejected two recent decisions taken by the House of Representatives (HoR), accusing the parliament of acting unilaterally and undermining political consensus. In a statement, the council criticised the HoR for moving ahead with appointments to the High National Elections Commission, saying the process was flawed both procedurally and legally. The council reaffirmed support for a unified national salary system covering both civilian and military employees. The HoR had earlier voted to approve a 150% salary increase for forces listed as "martyrs, prisoners, the missing and those wounded in conflict" — a proposal submitted by Saddam Haftar. It also approved filling vacant posts within the High National Elections Commission, despite earlier understandings between the two chambers on replacing the commission’s leadership in full.

Shifts in rhetoric from Western political figures including U.S. President Donald Trump’s blunt foreign-policy worldview are reviving familiar anxieties about Nigeria’s political future. For those who remember Libya and Iraq, the warning signs feel uncomfortably familiar. The descent into chaos in both Iraq and Libya was paved with language about instability, corruption, and the need for decisive intervention. Like Iraq before 2003 and Libya before 2011, Nigeria is strategically important, resource-rich, and internally diverse, ethnically, religiously, and politically. Third, addressing Nigeria’s youth crisis must be central to any stability strategy.

Waha Oil Co. said it completed drilling a new well that is producing an initial 1,765 barrels of crude a day, as Libya’s state-linked producer pushes ahead with expansion plans. The company said in a statement the Q125 well has entered production as part of a broader development program aimed at boosting output and improving recovery across its fields. Waha cited investments in modern engineering technology and tighter safety standards as key to the gains. The producer drilled 81 wells in 2025 — including oil, gas, water-injection and disposal wells — despite what it described as challenging operating conditions requiring round-the-clock coordination between field and engineering teams. Development drilling added more than 40,000 barrels a day of incremental capacity, lifting Waha’s average production to about 354,000 barrels a day this year, according to the company.
