Benghazi – Oil prices recorded a slight increase today, Friday. This comes amid escalating US economic pressure on Venezuelan oil shipments. Brent crude futures rose by about six cents. American West Texas Intermediate crude also rose by the same value. It reached $58.41 per barrel.

Search operations continue around the wreckage of the private jet carrying Libyan Chief of General Staff General Mohammed Ali Al-Haddad, Dec. 25, 2025. All eight people on board were killed, including five military delegation members and three crew members reported to be French nationals. Gen. Mahmoud al-Kutawi, Chief of Staff Advisor Muhammad al-Assawi Diyab, and General Staff Media Office Photographer Muhammad Omar Ahmad Mahjoub. Libya’s Interior Ministry said the flight recorder recovered from a plane crash in Türkiye that killed a senior Libyan military official and others will be sent to Germany for technical analysis as part of the investigation. A black box contains the flight data recorder and the cockpit voice recorder. It is typically analyzed in a crash investigation. In Germany, flight recorders are mostly analyzed by the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) in Braunschweig. Among them was Libyan Chief of the General Staff Mohammed al-Haddad, who had been on an official visit for the Tripoli government to Türkiye.

The embassy had told a day earlier to Türkiye Today that it was “in contact with the Turkish authorities” regarding the crash. The Presidential Council (PC) chief Mohamed Menfi has received messages of condolence from several Arab leaders following the death of the Libyan army’s Chief of General Staff, Lt Gen Mohamed al-Haddad, and his companions in a plane crash near Ankara. Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, expressed his sympathy and prayed for mercy for the victims and patience for their families.
