Turkish security forces arrested 115 suspected members of the Islamic State (IS) group this week over alleged plans to carry out attacks during Christmas and New Year’s events, authorities said Tuesday, the BBC reported. Officials said IS supporters planned attacks across Türkiye during the holiday period, with a focus on venues linked to non-Muslim communities. The prosecutor’s office said investigators found the suspects maintained contact with IS operatives abroad and coordinated attacks beyond Türkiye’s borders. Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, who maintains close ties with Ankara, had pledged cooperation with the United States and European countries to dismantle surviving IS cells, officials said. The United States launched airstrikes across Syria last Friday against IS positions after the killing of three Americans earlier this month.
