Security stepped up outside Rahul Gandhi’s house after intel input
The Delhi Police stepped up security outside the house of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after receiving intelligence inputs about possible threats from right-wing groups, senior officers said on Wednesday. A senior police officer said that a platoon of paramilitary personnel and several teams of the Delhi Police, from the New Delhi district, were deployed outside his residence. The security was heightened during the afternoon hours after a tip-off was received regarding a possible disturbance in the area, he said. This comes after Rahul Gandhi, in his maiden speech as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, took a swipe at the BJP, saying those who call themselves Hindus are engaged in “violence and hate”. Microsoft settles California probe over worker leave for $14 million
Microsoft Corp has agreed to pay $14 million to settle a California agency's claims that it illegally penalized workers who took medical or family-care leave, the agency said on Wednesday. The settlement, which must be approved by a state judge, would resolve a multiyear investigation by the Civil Rights Department, the agency said. The state's Civil Rights Department has announced a series of large settlements in recent years, mainly in sex-discrimination cases. Those include a $100 million deal with videogame maker Riot Games in 2021, a $54 million settlement with Activision Blizzard last year, and, last month, a $15 million settlement with Snapchat parent Snap. The agency accused Microsoft of sex and disability discrimination and interfering with workers' rights to take leave.

Month after LS poll defeat, Rajasthan minister Kirodi Lal Meena resigns
JAIPUR: Kirodi Lal Meena has resigned as a minister in the Rajasthan government following the BJP's underwhelming performance in the Lok Sabha polls in the state. The Rajasthan agriculture, rural development, disaster management and relief minister had said Prime Minister Narendra Modi assigned him the seven seats in eastern Rajasthan on which he worked hard during the polls. "Kirodi Meena resigned as minister. Meena campaigned on eastern Rajasthan seats including Dausa, Bharatpur, Karauli- Dholpur, Alwar, Tonk-Sawaimadhopur and Kota-Bundi. In the results declared last month, the BJP lost Dausa, Bharatpur, Karauli-Dholpur and Tonk-Sawai Madhopur.

High valuations in IndiaPrime Minister Narendra Modi's third consecutive victory was widely expected, but we saw a much tighter margin of victory than the exuberant exit polls suggested. The market pulled back substantially in response, but subsequently surged over the week, adding to volatile conditions. Retail money has been investing at record levels and, in our view, the market is vulnerable to any disappointment, perceived or otherwise. This development, we think, signals excessively high valuations and overexuberance. This latter point had deeply worried the market, given the strong anti-capitalist tone in some of the new president’s policy proposals.

Nitish Kumar's Bihar government cites education lag as quota logic to Supreme Court
“The Bihar Caste Based Survey reveals the educational backwardness of all categories…. Only 14.71 per cent of the total population is up to secondary education and 9.19 per cent is up to higher secondary education. The category-wise data shows some extra efforts by the state to reduce the educational backwardness in all categories. About 90.08 per cent of the illiterate population reside in rural areas, while 9.92 per cent are living in urban areas,” the Nitish Kumar government said.
