Five special children die of food poisoning at Indore orphanage
BHOPAL: Five orphan and specially-abled boys have reportedly died at an orphanage in Madhya Pradesh’s most populated city Indore since Sunday. While one of the boys died on Sunday following epileptic fits, four other boys died on Monday and Tuesday following suspected food poisoning. The five boys who died at the Yugpurush Dham Ashram orphanage (housing 200-plus orphan or abandoned specially-abled children aged between three years and 18 years) have been identified as Shubham alias Karan, Akash, Shubh, Divya and Govind, who are aged between 5 and 15 years, youngest of them being 5-years-old Govind.

On June 9, the India-Pakistan match broke the record for the most-attended cricket match in the USA with 38,028 people – and I was one of them. The Nassau County International Cricket Stadium was constructed in just 106 days and will take approximately six weeks to dismantle. After I moved to the US in 2014, my interest in cricket declined, primarily because watching India’s games posed a time zone challenge. However, once I started mentoring Anika Kolan (wicketkeeper, batter), the 17-year-old Vice Captain of the US Women’s Cricket team, my interest levels increased, especially in cricket in the USA. With the current T20 Cricket World Cup being played in the US and the West Indies, cricket is making a comeback in the US.

Adani-Hindenburg Case: Hindenburg says in Adani’s stocks, it made only $4 million.
Hindenburg Research has said that contrary to claims made by Indian regulatory authorities that it had a massive financial windfall from its short position in Adani’s securities, it had made only $4 million in gross revenue. “We have made $4.1 million in gross revenue through gains related to Adani shorts from that investor relationship. We made just $31,000 through our own short of Adani U.S. bonds held into the report. “Net of legal and research expenses (including time, salaries/compensation, and costs for a 2-year global investigation) we may come out ahead of breakeven on our Adani short,” it added. In the show cause notice SEBI has alleged that Hindenburg Research was involved in unfair practices and violated Indian regulations with respect to trading in the shares of Adani Enterprises.

Global goods trade rises in Q1 after flat 2023: WTO
(You can now subscribe to our(You can now subscribe to our Economic Times WhatsApp channelNew Delhi: The volume of world merchandise trade turned up in the first quarter of 2024 after remaining flat throughout 2023, the World Trade Organization ( WTO ) said Tuesday.Merchandise trade as measured by the average of exports and imports was up 1% in the first quarter compared to the previous quarter. Trade was up 1.4% compared to the same period in 2023.Most regions contributed positively to the upturn in trade volume , with Europe remaining a notable exception as its exports and imports continued to decline.WTO predicted that world merchandise trade volume would grow 2.6% in April 2024 and 3.3% in the same month in 2025. "The 1% increase is broadly consistent with these projections; if the current pace of expansion continues through the end of this year, trade volume for the whole of 2024 will be 2.7% higher than in 2023," the WTO said.The US dollar value of world merchandise trade was down 2% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2024, according to the Geneva-based organization. The fact that trade values were declining while trade volumes were rising indicates that export and import prices were falling during this period, it said.
