Dr. David MaDr. David Ma, a nutrition researcher at the College of Biological Science, lent his thoughts to CBC Radio’s White Coat, Black Art on a recent study that indicates artificial sweeteners may cause long-term health effects. “I would say that, you know, the sky is not going to fall down because we have artificial sweeteners in our diet. But certainly, we need to have an eye out for everything in our diet, including artificial sweeteners in terms of the short-term and the longer-term effects,” he said. Ma is professor in the Department of Human Health and Nutritional Studies and the director of the Guelph Family Health Study. He researches childhood obesity and fatty acids.

New information about the murders of Delphi eighth graders Liberty German and Abigail Williams became public Monday, and police have a man in custody. Liberty, who went by Libby, and Abigail, who went by Abby, went for a hike along the Monon High Bridge on Feb. 13, 2017. Since then, police have formed a task force for the case, interviewed suspects and followed tips, eventually leading to Allen's arrest. The Indigenous non-profit corporation responsible for health and social services for the majority of Alaska’s interior will receive $30.3 million US to help build up high-speed internet in the region. The initiative provides both loans and grants to facilitate greater broadband service in rural areas. The grant announced Friday will go towards building a fibre network that will serve individuals, businesses and education facilities. The high-speed internet will serve Hughes, Huslia, Alatna, and Allakaket Native Village Statistical Areas as well as communities in the Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area. “Many of our rural, Alaska Native communities for too long have found themselves without the broadband connectivity that most Americans take for granted,” Sullivan said.

The Canada Grains Council, Grain Growers of Canada, Canola Council of Canada, Canadian Canola Growers Association, Soy Canada and Pulse Canada are all members of Grains HQ, which they described as the one-stop shop for farmers, processors and grain companies in the sector. bySeveral years ago, while we were waiting for the church to build a building in downtown Chicago, my ward met in a rented public school on Sundays. Primary and adult classes met in classrooms, some with class pets you could watch if the lesson was less-than-completely interesting. And kids could play on the playground out back once church was over (and—shhh!—sometimes when their primary class took them out). But, like many Chicago public schools, this school didn’t have air conditioning. (Also, those few weeks of heat tend to be in the summer, when school’s not in session.)

A 67-year-old man who was struck by a bus in Dartmouth, N.S., on Saturday has died. Halifax police say the incident occurred at around 7:30 p.m. at Halifax Transit's bridge terminal. They say the man came into contact with the bus while it was in motion and he later died. Halifax Regional Municipality declined a request to comment on the incident.
