Immigration Minister Sean Fraser revealed the new plan on Tuesday. It puts a heavy emphasis on admitting more permanent residents with needed work skills and experience, alongside more-modest targets for family members and refugees. This is a massive increase in economic migration to Canada,” Fraser told The Canadian Press. “In each of the last two years, we have resettled more than one-third of the total number of refugees who were settled globally,” he added. Kmiec noted officials within the immigration department have 2.6 million applications sitting on their desks waiting to be processed.

Gibbs then pulled up an emailed death threat to Freeland on Feb. 16 — two days after the Emergencies Act was invoked — titled “Prepare for Blood and War!! It wasn’t anything that couldn’t have been managed.”Barber also noted there were tensions with another protest group called Take Back Our Freedoms, but did not provide details. Barber was the first of the organizers of the so-called “Freedom Convoy” protests that gridlocked the capital and inspired border blockades across Canada to testify Tuesday at the federal Emergencies Act inquiry. Health Minister Adrian Dix’s new plan to fix the family doctor system is as expensive as it is ambitious. But what’s not in the new deal with Doctors of BC is just as interesting: A promise that those without a family doctor will actually get one. “So if you’re asking, this agreement, does this mean X number of new patients will be attached to a family doctor? Still, it’s unclear whether the one million British Columbians currently without a family doctor will buy into this deal. By then, all of the talk of complex medical pay models must translate into one tangible thing: More family doctors accepting more patients.

Folk singer Alex Krawczyk reflects on Sherman murder case in album about healingTORONTO — Alex Krawczyk says music has been the route to healing from the shocking and unsolved murder of her parents Barry and Honey Sherman nearly five years ago. Last month, the album helped her earn anomination for new/emerging artist of the year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. Roth and Krawczyk went through their process of songwriting together, with Roth handling melodies and Krawczyk penning the lyrics, sometimes vice versa. With the help of her friends, namely Roth and Canadian vocalist Dione Taylor, “Le Olam” came to fruition.

‘Isn’t about fed-bashing for kicks’: Saskatchewan aims to assert autonomy with billREGINA — The Saskatchewan government introduced a bill Tuesday to unilaterally amend parts of the Canadian Constitution, signalling the province is gearing up for a fight with Ottawa over its environmental policies. The Saskatchewan Party government is leaning on Section 45 of the Constitution Act, 1982, which "permits provincial legislatures to amend the constitution of the province" — in this case, the Saskatchewan Act. It also wants to amend the Saskatchewan Act to reassert that it has exclusive jurisdiction over its natural resources. "It will give us those tools that we will need to take that case forward to the courts," McAdam said. Eyre pointed out that Alberta does not yet have a bill, and that the Saskatchewan first act is unique.
