TORONTO - Karl Wolf says much of his success is owed to his breakout hit “Africa,” which is why he’s decided to revisit the track with a new remix to mark its 15th anniversary. Compared to his original cover, the new version has a quicker tempo and a more pronounced layer of synths. The song arrives as Karl Wolf, born Carl Abou-Samah, embarks on his whirlwind countrywide tour starting on Nov. 24. Inspiration for the 2007 remix of “Africa” hit him while he was listening to dance hall in a taxi in Montreal. When he ventured away from Sky to become a solo act, he didn’t see much success on the charts until the original “Africa” remix took off.

“I think that’s one of the ingredients that’s helped us.”Ferguson said that the milestone fills him with gratitude. “I don’t know what the statistics are for the same original members of bands and how long they last,” said Ferguson. It’s our 13th album: a lot of people probably don’t have more than two or three records by a band. “We’ve been able to make records basically on our own for 30 years, for better or worse,” said Ferguson. “Everybody kind of writes on their own in general in our band,” Ferguson said.

© Sean Kilpatrick/The Canadian Press Increasing demand for phone numbers means Manitoba will get a third area code. A third area code, 584, will be introduced in Manitoba by the end of the month, the Telecommunications Alliance says. The introduction of the new area code is due to an increasing demand for phone numbers in the region. All local calls will still require 10 digits (area code plus local number). Businesses using communications systems that restrict long distance calls will need to add 584 as a local area code, the Telecommunications Alliance said.

Black residents in the Edmonton region of Alberta, Canada, are calling out the local police for the use of phenotyping, a practice where DNA is used to create digital images of unidentified suspects. Earlier this month, Edmonton Police Service (EPS) announced plans to work with a U.S. company to begin the practice of DNA phenotyping. But after releasing an image of an unidentified suspect in a sexual assault case gone cold, the results garnered public backlash for how the image characterized a Black suspect. EPS Chief Operating Officer Enyinnah Okere apologized for how the image might’ve upset Edmonton’s Black community. “It is troubling to issue a generic image that renders large numbers of Black males suspect,” the letter states.

Lang School of Business and Economics, appeared on a special edition of CBC Radio’s The Current, called “Eating the Costs”, to discuss the Competition Bureau’s investigation into grocery prices. He also said the bureau’s investigation provides an opportunity for Canadians to better understand supply chains and the grocery industry. Recently, Somogyi made headlines while discussing food price inflation, vegetable oil prices and allegations of grocer price collusion. Ontario Health CoalitionTORONTO, Oct. 26, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Ontario Health Coalition released a brief today charging that the Ford government lied to the public about its privatization of Ontario’s public hospital services. The Coalition also launched a major public campaign to mobilize Ontarians to save our local public hospitals and stop Ford’s privatization. It was an odd thing to say because the Private Hospitals Act banned private hospitals in Ontario starting 50 years ago—for good reason. The Private Hospitals Act grandfathered-in the existing private hospitals and banned any new ones. Examples:“These claims are categorically false…To be clear, the government is committed to supporting the province’s public health care system.

South Africa to let Russian billionaire’s superyacht dockCAPE TOWN, South Africa (AP) — Cape Town port is ideally suited to host a $500 million superyacht linked to sanctioned Russian billionaire Alexey Mordashov, a South African official said Wednesday, after the country announced its intention to let the vessel dock there despite a bid by the city's mayor to block its entry. The South African government made the announcement Tuesday amid claims steel and mining magnate Alexey Mordashov is seeking a new harbor to shield the superyacht from seizure. South Africa abstained from a U.N. vote condemning Russia’s actions and called, instead, for dialogue and diplomacy. The Nord flies a Russian flag, is 141.6 meters (465 feet) long and has two helipads, a swimming pool and 20 cabins. Russian oligarchs have been looking for suitable harbors for their luxury yachts since they were targeted by American and European sanctions over the war in Ukraine.

UK Treasury chief delays detailing new economic plansLONDON (AP) — U.K. Treasury chief Jeremy Hunt on Wednesday delayed his much-anticipated economic statement until Nov. 17, giving new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak a chance to weigh in on policies meant to stabilize the country’s finances after his predecessor’s tax-cutting plans triggered market upheaval. Financial markets have recovered since Hunt became Treasury chief two weeks ago and threw out most of Truss’ economic plan. The British currency and government bonds held on to recent gains after the economic statement was delayed, suggesting investors are willing to give Hunt time to make sure he and Sunak agree on the new government’s economic policies. The delay means the Bank of England will have to make its next interest rate decision before it knows the details of the government’s tax and spending plans. “I fully appreciate how hard things are,” Sunak said outside the prime minister’s official residence at 10 Downing Street.

LAS VEGAS—The only good thing about the Maple Leafs’ 3-1 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday night was that they didn’t lose John Tavares as well. The play went on, back to the Leafs end, as Tavares writhed in pain in front of Vegas goalie Logan Thompson. The Matthews line spent a minute in the Vegas end on one shift. But the Leafs perked up toward the end of the period again and Nylander got the tying goal, fed by Tavares. It was Tavares’s hard work along the boards at the Golden Knights’ blue-line that earned him the puck.
