Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has inaugurated the 'Mrityunjayee Prangan' on Dhaka's Bijoy Sarani, adorned with several murals depicting the pivotal role of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Bangladesh’s freedom struggle. The murals adorning seven walls along the premises were previously showcased at the Victory Day parades in 2021 and 2022 to widespread acclaim. Hasina personally selected the road island along Bijoy Sarani as the location for the sculpture, which was installed under the supervision of the Bangladesh Army. Arriving at the inauguration ceremony shortly before 10 am, the prime minister was surrounded by a group of children from the audience. Speaking at the ceremony, Hasina remembered her father, Bangabandhu, reflecting on his efforts to fight back against the suppression of the Bengali people's mother tongue in 1948.

The United States remains committed to ensuring a fair and free national election in Bangladesh and maintains a neutral stance towards all political parties in the country, according to the State Department. Vedant Patel, a spokesperson for the State Department, reiterated Washington’s position during a media briefing on Thursday. However, he refrained from commenting on the issue of having a caretaker government in place during the election, a core demand from opposition groups. “As you’ve heard us say, we do not support a particular government or political party or candidate in any country, and that in areas where there are elections ongoing, we—our goal and intent is for these elections to take place in a free and fair way that respects the will of the people of that country.”He also underscored Washington’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Dhaka. Responding to a question about Bangladesh’s success in combating terrorism and radicalism with US support, Patel said, “I will speak about this in broad terms that you’ve heard me say before, that last year we celebrated 50 years of diplomatic relations with Bangladesh, and of course that this is a country that we’re looking to continue to deepen our relationships and partnerships with as there continue to be a number of areas, including trade, cooperation in the climate space, cooperation in the security space, and otherwise where that potential exists.”

Sufjan Stevens is one of my favorite musicians. Sufjan has a very broad discography, having released 13 studio albums, three soundtracks, 13 EPs, two mixtapes and more since 1999. Javelin brings together elements of his old and new sounds and demonstrates his evolution as an artist in a fascinating way. Throughout the album, he subtly compares romantic love to religious love, with many of the songs resembling hymns. The album finishes with a hopeful song called “There’s a World,” completing his grief with acceptance of something beyond death.

Issues that graduate students have claimed to face include issues with funding guarantees, healthcare coverage and worker protections, according to the CGSU website. Over the course of the month, over 2,500 graduate workers signed unionization cards, which CGSU claimed was a supermajority of graduate workers at Cornell. Prior to the election, over 1,600 eligible voters pledged to vote yes in support of the unionization election.
