CIRATA, Indonesia, Nov 9, 2023 (BSS/AFP) - Indonesia on Thursday inaugurated a $100 million floating solar farm, the largest in Southeast Asia, as the country seeks more opportunities to transition to green, renewable energy. The Cirata floating solar farm, which is expected to generate enough electricity to power 50,000 households, is built on a 200-hectare (500-acre) reservoir in West Java, about 130 kilometres (80 miles) from the capital, Jakarta. "We managed to build the largest floating solar farm in Southeast Asia, and the third biggest in the world," he said. The solar farm, funded by Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Societe Generale and Standard Chartered, consists of 340,000 panels. But solar and wind power each account for less than one percent of Indonesia's power mix, as Southeast Asia's largest economy still relies heavily on fossil fuels to generate electricity.

“We hope to be able to work more collaboratively because we will have time in the mornings to do the actual work of crafting budgets,” Horman added. But the traditional public budget hearings will be shortened to approximately 90 minutes. JFAC members have long met in smaller worker groups behind closed doors to hammer out the process of setting agency budgets. During Thursday’s meeting, Sen. Janie Ward-Engelking, D-Boise, asked Horman if the smaller budget working groups would meet in public or private. Friday’s meeting and the portion of Thursday’s meeting taking place at the Idaho State Capitol will be streamed live via Idaho in Session.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has sought an explanation from the national team’s fast bowling coach Allan Donald for his comments on Angelo Mathews’ controversial 'timed out' dismissal during the Tigers' World Cup match against Sri Lanka in Delhi. In an interview with CricBlog.net, Donald said “it was disappointing to see” that kind of a dismissal and he found it “really difficult to watch that unfold”, reports ESPNcricinfo. The BCB’s reaction to the former South Africa speedster's comments was expected as a member of the team management criticising a team decision publicly has been generally frowned upon by the board. However, the BCB is unlikely to take any action as the World Cup is effectively Donald's last assignment with the Bangladesh team. He has reportedly informed the board that he won't continue once his contract runs out at the end of the tournament.

College campuses are presented with a unique situation when it comes to fashion. Students noticeably follow the same fashion trends, oftentimes down to the same pieces of clothing. At Cornell specifically, while the transition from summer to fall wardrobes has begun, there are certainly silhouettes and styles that have prevailed as the first semester fashion template. Staples of the “Cornell look” include flowy maxi skirts, especially white linen ones, as well as open back tops. In addition to clothes, certain accessories have also become an expected addition to a typical Cornell student outfit.

“The amount that we’re smashing records by is shocking,” Burgess said. After the cumulative warming of these past several months, it’s virtually guaranteed that 2023 will be the hottest year on record, according to Copernicus. Scientists monitor climate variables to gain an understanding of how our planet is evolving as a result of human-generated greenhouse gas emissions. A warmer planet means more extreme and intense weather events like severe drought or hurricanes that hold more water, said Peter Schlosser, vice president and vice provost of the Global Futures Laboratory at Arizona State University. Historically, the ocean has absorbed as much as 90% of the excess heat from climate change, Burgess said.

The Costs of BNP-Jamaat's Successive Strikes and BlockadesHartal (strike) and Oborodh (blockade) are not new to Indian sub-continental politics. In 419 major incidents of political violence throughout the year of 2013, spearheaded by Jamaat-Shibir, 492 people were killed while 2,200 others were injured in the incidents. This was followed by another two days of Oborodh by BNP, Jamaat, and allies on November 5 and 6. From large shopping malls to wholesale traders, all have seen business going down sharply due to the BNP-Jamaat blockades. Many guardians are reluctant to send their children to schools and colleges due to the risk of falling victims to political violence by blockade enforcers, especially those who live far from the educational institutions.
