Several untoward incidents related to Durga Puja in Bangladesh since October 1, 17 arrested
Seventeen persons have been arrested and about a dozen cases registered after Bangladesh witnessed about 35 untoward incidents related to the ongoing Durga Puja celebrations across the country this month, police said here. The five-day Hindu religious festival began with an invocation of Goddess Durga, an occasion called Maha Shasthi on Wednesday. Mr. Islam visited the Banani Puja Mandap in Dhaka on Friday (October 11) after which he told reporters that Durga Puja was being celebrated at over 32,000 mandaps nationwide. We demand the matter be investigated properly and the persons involved be brought to justice,” leader of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council Krishna Mukherjee said. Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sazeeb Bhuiyan exchanged greetings with members of the Hindu community at the Durga Puja puja mandaps at Gallamari Harichand Tagore Temple and Bagmara Govinda Temple in Khulna on Friday.

Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Japanese organization of atomic bombing survivors
The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded Friday to Nihon Hidankyo, a Japanese organization of survivors of the U.S. atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, for its activism against nuclear weapons. Jørgen Watne Frydnes, chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, said the award was made as the "taboo against the use of nuclear weapons is under pressure." Efforts to eradicate nuclear weapons have been honored in the past by the Nobel committee. This Nobel Peace Prize sends a powerful message. Unlike the other Nobel prizes that are selected and announced in Stockholm, founder Alfred Nobel decreed the peace prize be decided and awarded in Oslo by the five-member Norwegian Nobel Committee.

Today’s subject is Queen’s fifth album, A Day at the Races (1976) — it only feels right to honor the band that got me through the most trying of my teenage years. I guess Queen grew up to emulate their idols, who were crossing Abbey Road in 1969, right around the time the young Queen members began to rehearse. With the simple ease of May’s lead vocals, we get a glimpse of how the band might have looked without the added dynamism of a roaring Freddie Mercury. The bassist, although self-effacing, loved Queen with a fervor that distanced him from the band after Mercury’s death.

DHAKA, Oct 11, 2024 (BSS) - Academics, journalists and intellectuals at a seminar today underscored the need for developing people-to-people interaction and understanding between Bangladesh and India to make up for the miscommunication being taken place through media campaigns. So, we should develop more contacts and engagements with Indian civil society members, bureaucrats and common people," said the speakers. In the seminar, the academics and intellectuals also stressed the need for developing new and effective Bangladeshi narratives and counter flow of information against the Indian narratives centering the mass-upsurge and the country's minority issues. Political analyst Zaheed-Ur-Rahman said the way some Indian media outlets portrayed the July revolution and post revolution events is the reflection of its continued practice of spreading disinformation about Bangladesh in the last 15 years. Journalist and fact checker Qadaruddin Shishir said even before the student-led mass upsurge, there have been cases that maximum of Indian media outlets were spreading misinformation and disinformation over some significant events of Bangladesh.
