DHAKA, Oct 11, 2024 (BSS) – The third day of Maha Ashtami of the five-day ‘Sharadiyo Durga Puja’ was celebrated across the country today including the capital city amid enthusiasm and religious fervour by observing different rituals including offering Anjali and Kumari Puja. The Ramakrishna Mission Mandir in the capital experienced huge crowds as devotees came to visit the place to offer their puja on Maha Ashtami. Kumari Puja was held at Ramakrishna Mission in the capital at 10:30 am. In the morning, Sanatan devotees thronged various puja mandaps at the districts and upazila towns across the country including the capital city to offer blessings and prayers at Kumari Puja on Friday. Maha Nabami of ‘Sharadiyo Durgotsab’ will be celebrated tomorrow.

The number of hospitalised dengue patients across the country is 40,895 this yearTwo people have died of dengue, while 490 more patients have been hospitalised with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease across the country in the past 24 hours. The Directorate General of Health Services, or DGHS, said as many as 225 were hospitalised in Dhaka among the new dengue patients until Friday morning. With the new counts, the number of hospitalised dengue patients has reached 40, 895 this year. The DGHS has been keeping records of dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000. Since then, a record 321,179 dengue hospitalisations were logged in 2023.

TANGAIL, Oct 11, 2024 (BSS) – The driver and the helper of a truck were killed as their truck collided head-on with a covered van at Kalihati upazila of the district this morning. The deceased was identified as Anwarul Islam, 30, a truck driver and son of M Azhar Ali, hailed from Maheshpur of Thakurgaon. The truck driver and his assistant were killed on the spot. The driver of the covered van was rescued and sent to Tangail General Hospital. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to the family members after completing necessary legal procedure.
