A case has been filed over the shooting death of four United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) leaders in Khagrachhari’s Panchhari. Nirupam Chakma, the uncle of victim Bipul Chakma, started the case against nearly 20 people at Panchhari Police Station on Wednesday, said Shafiul Azam, chief of the police station. Three other UPDF leaders, Niti Datta Chakma, Harikamal Tripura and Prakash Tripura, have reportedly been missing since the incident. A team of seven UPDF leaders and activists, including Bipul Chakma, visited Logang on Monday for organisational work. Aungue blamed the Gonotantrik UPDF for the incident, but Shyamol Chakma, president of the Gonotantrik UPDF, refuted the allegations, suggesting that several organisations in the Chattogram Hill Tracts could have carried out the attack.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Panchari Police Station Shafiul Azam said Nirupam Chakma, uncle of deceased Bipul Chakma, filed the murder case today (Wednesday) morning accusing 15/20 unknown people. Post-mortems of the bodies of four UPDF leaders have been completed. Since this incident, three leaders of UPDF are still missing, he said. Bipul Chakma, central organizing secretary of UPDF Prasit Group-affiliated Democratic Youth Forum, PCP central vice-president Sunil Tripura, Democratic Youth Forum leader Liton Chakma and UPDF member Ruhin Bikas Tripura were killed by miscreants on Monday night.

"The second tranche ($689 million) of the $4.7 billion loan package allocated for Bangladesh by IMF will be available by next Friday. The central bank senior official said this at a press conference at BB headquarters in the city. Mezbaul Haque said, "As per the BPM-6 manual, our forex reserves currently stand at $19 billion. According to Bangladesh Bank, gross foreign exchange reserves are now $24.67 billion. Earlier on Tuesday, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal confirmed that IMF has approved the second portion of the $4.7 billion loan package for Bangladesh.

This may seem redundant, but Anna Maria Island is an island and, like every island in the world, it’s surrounded by water. I think a lot about this from time to time, since I too worked in Anna Maria for many years, and frequently felt like I was back in midtown Manhattan. The success of Anna Maria Island is the envy of many coastal towns in the country. Those towns are Nantucket Island, Massachusetts and Vail, Colorado. After a record 79,598 dengue cases and 396 deaths in September amid the worst outbreak of the disease, 67,769 cases and 359 deaths were reported in October. The number of cases in August was 71,976, with 342 deaths. The death toll in November was 274. As many as 40,716 new dengue cases were recorded last month. Experts have blamed a prolonged monsoon and rising temperature, along with a lack of effective measures to kill the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the known carrier of the virus, for the outbreak.

Efforts to restore the damaged section of the railway line in Gazipur’s Bhawal are underway with the installation of new sheeting on the 300-foot track following the fatal derailment of a Dhaka-bound train. The incident rendered 100 sleepers unusable, according to Assistant Engineer Md Anwar Hossain of the Dhaka Railway Division. The derailment damaged over 600 feet of railway tracks along the Joydebpur-Mymensingh route, said Anwar. So far, 80 per cent of the damaged railway lines have already undergone repair, with the completion of the entire restoration expected by evening, he added. In the wake of the derailment, train operations on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route were suspended.
