Professor Awendare indicated that the AstraZeneca and Sputnik V vaccines are not effective against the Indian variant. All this while, we’ve been fixed on AstraZeneca and Sputnik V but we have to shift towards more of Pfizer and others which have a better chance of protecting against this variant.

Dr. Ayine added the Chief Justice’s petition may set a “retrogressive precedent whereby disciplinary proceedings would be used as a tool to enforce silence from the bar in the name of shielding judges from disparaging criticism by lawyers”. But the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged the Chief Justice to withdraw his petition to the GLC. The party said the CJ’s petition is an attempt to “intimidate and suppress views that are at variance with his”.

UNHCR to focus on Health, Education, and Sports - UNHCR Country Director
The Country Director of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Esther Kiragu, has stated that the UNHCR is geared towards ensuring the inclusion of refugees in the development discourse of the world, especially in Ghana. She explained that most refugees have been enrolled on the national health insurance scheme where they have free access to health, education among others. We are shining a light on health, education and sports this year globally. In the area of education, it is integrated into the national system and national services. We don’t have parallel structures, refugees have access to health insurance,” she said.

BoG’s directive on abolishing unfair charges will make banking sector transparent - Consultant
Speaking to Joy Business, Mr Atuahene said such a step is necessary to rain transparency in the banking industry. “What Bank of Ghana has done seriously is to improve transparency, a high disclosure in the industry. The banking consult added that the BoG directive creates a level of awareness among customers. Dr Atuahene further called on the central bank to come up with other regulations that will make information in the banking sector more transparent. The BoG has directed banks, SDIs to abolish unfair fees, charges, others.

Judgments in 2020 election petition were collection of opinions of Chief Justice – Tsatsu Tsikata
In the view of Mr Tsikata, the CJ's opinions were subsequently endorsed by the other justices of the apex court. In this last petition, I think as we all saw virtually in all the decisions, the Chief Justice will write an opinion and everybody was on board”, he said. According to Mr Tsikata, his faulting of the court in its ruling is positioned in the importance of the law and in fidelity to the constitution. Mr Mahama in his suit asked the court to declare the result announced by the EC as null and void citing irregularities on the part of the elections body. The court after the full trial unanimously dismissed the petition and described it as not having merit.

Children want corruption tackled in Ghana - Report
Out of the 11,288 children sampled, 48% of the respondents want poverty to be eradicated. The children who partook in the life experience survey report want powers invested in politician limited. In the report, politicians intervening for perpetrators in child abuse cases, favouritism in scholarship, disbursement in the processes of assessing scholarships, among others are some examples of corruption-related cases in the country. These are some of the concerns raised by the children; adding that, they fear getting jobs in the next 2 decades. The survey, according to the Executive Director of Child Rights International, Bright Appiah was conducted from June 20, 2020, to April 16, 2021.

Irresponsible fathers contributing to high crime rates - IGP
These comments were contained in a speech read on his behalf by the Technical Director of the Ghana Police Service, COP Samuel Monney, during Wilmar Africa’s Fathers’ Day Awards Night and Dinner. The IGP used the occasion to advise fathers not to shirk their roles in the lives of their children, reports citinewsroom.com. It is therefore not surprising that the attention given to Father’s Day is not as much as that of Mother’s Day. It is about time our Fathers become responsible, this way, a number of societal problems will be solved,” he added. Today In History: Ghana is insecure, cannot be 4th most peaceful country - Group
On the back of that, a non-for-profit group known as the Peace Watch Ghana, expressed great worry about what it said was insecurity in the country. According to its Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Diana Nyankopah Daniels, she said there was the need to put in measures to stabilize the peace in the country. A peaceful country she noted is one where the police service discharges their duties in a competent and decent manner. Ghana came 4th after Botswana and Malawi and Mauritius respectively as the most peaceful country in Africa in the latest Global Peace Index. If we have peace in Ghana, we would not be witnessing an increase in criminal activities.

There will be no Fulani discrimination in 2021 census - GSS
We have nine major ethnic groups in Ghana. For each major ethnic group, we have sub-major ethnic groups, and the main reason for the categorization is just for our operations. It is just to help people identify with the major ethnic groups,” he said. Earlier this week, the African Centre for Fulani Affairs and Security, and the National Council of Fulani chiefs registered their displeasure at a deliberate attempt to sideline them in the upcoming population and housing census. According to them, the Fulani ethnic group has been captured under the ‘All other tribes’ category on the questionnaire to be used for the exercise which will commence on June 27, 2021.
