The energy think tank believes the country's energy debt is putting constraints on power generation and distribution. The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a 22-day power cut timetable starting from Monday, June 28, 2021. The ECG blamed the blackout on the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo)'s maintenance work on some bulk supply points and transmission cables in Accra. Nana Amoasi VII added that the debts could lead to more outages. In an interaction with Citi Business News monitored by GhanaWeb, Samson Awingobit called on the trade minister and Parliament's select Committee on Trade to take a second look at the clause within the Act. “We are therefore calling on the Trade Minister of Ghana and the parliamentary select committee on Trade, as a matter of urgency, to review the new law which we believe does not represent the vision of the current government to create an enabling environment for the trading sector.”As part of efforts to increase insurance penetration in Ghana and particularly the maritime sector, Parliament earlier in February 2021 passed the New Insurance Law and was subsequently assented into law by the president.

According to the Chamber’s chief executive officer, Emmanuel Cherry explained, the Board when constituted will address teething issues among members who are owed monies by government for completed projects. “We agreed on the principle that let the Ministry of Roads of Highways do percentage payment so 40% was agreed so that every contractor would at least receive 40 percent of their entry payment certificate. But as we speak, some contractors haven’t received the 40 percent. Meanwhile, some members of the Construction Chamber have also threatened to take legal action over the non-payment of monies and subsequently threatened to shut down areas where projects have been completed.
