The overall number of GoTa phones in existence which currently stands at 900 are meant to assist the checking the validity of motor insurance stickers on vehicles with the view to protecting lives and property. Making the revelation to mark the end of a nationwide training of MTTD personnel, Dr Justice Yaw Ofori pointed the move was necessary to curb the menace of vehicles plying the roads without proper or fake insurance certification. “Some vehicle owners or their drivers are carrying with them fake insurance policies in violation of the law. While some may be ignorant of the modus operandi of some miscreants in society perpetrating this phenomenon, some others consciously purchase these fake insurance policies from some unscrupulous persons just because they are cheaper,” he bemoaned. He used the opportunity to admonish motorists and vehicle owners to purchase insurance policies from insurance companies licensed by the National Insurance Commission or their agents and expect to receive instant text messages upon payment of their premiums.

The two, Emmanuel Dakorah and Richard Suleman, following an arrest by the Police after their video post went viral were charged with an intent to cause fear and panic and publication of fake news. The prosecutor of the case, Chief Superintendent Kofi Blagoggie, read the charges and prayed the court to grant the police about two weeks to investigate the source of their video post which was shared numerous times across various social media platforms and news portals. Charles Owusu Ansah who is counsel for the accused persons, however, objected to charges and prayed the court to grant his clients bail of which the presiding judge, Ebenezer Kwaku Ansah, agreed to as the two have exceeded the mandatory stay period in police custody. But the prosecutor on various occasions told the court to hold the two accused persons in police custody while the police investigate an incident of some two pistols that were allegedly burnt by the accused. The two, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and are expected to report to the police three times a week until the case is heard again on July 7, 2021.

Should the prediction come to fruition, market analysts believe it would be significant given that the last time such a feat was achieved was back in the 2010-11 cocoa crop year. Additionally, Ghana’s cocoa regulator said it has exceeded its 2020-21 cocoa production target and subsequently stretched the US$1.3 billion syndicated loan that was earlier raised at the beginning of the season in October 2020. It has also raised GH¢11.7 billion (US$2 billion) in cocoa produce bills between January and May 2021 and also increased bill sales in order to help refinance maturing obligations. COCOBOD further plans to raise US$1.5 billion through syndicated loans for the upcoming crop season in October 2021.

The agreement has resulted in a US$170 million judgement debt, where the Government of Ghana is expected to pay to GPGC as ordered by a Commercial Court in London for unlawful termination of the contract. This, Dame said, resulted in excessive power supply and blamed the signatories to the agreement. “The fact borne out by the PPA committee’s report was that the agreement, together with other agreements, had resulted in such excessive power supply to the state. The committee singled out this particular agreement for termination.”But John Jinapor believes the former Energy Minister under President Akufo-Addo’s first term administration should rather take the blame for the US$170 million judgement debt. Lee Addy is quoted by Ghanasportspage.com to have criticized the management for not acting proactively in securing his services. “I can authoritatively say my move to Hearts of Oak SC was a done deal, 99% until everyone went silent having trained with the team for weeks. “No one is bigger than Accra Hearts of Oak SC but the Management is supposed to do their duties very well so that the club can win trophies. “I was not happy with Hearts of Oak SC especially with their delay in working out necessary things.
