“Most of these victims that lose their lives don’t necessarily lose their lives because of the collision; it is what happens to them after the collision. When the collision happens, some of them may have some fractured jaw or something that will affect the breath,” he said. Some will be trapped by any of the components of the vehicle and would need someone with a specialist equipment to bring the person out. The committee in their report said that, based on testimonies from multiple witnesses it is convinced that Kaaka’s death was caused by family feud. “We, accordingly, find that the death of “Kaaka” was not directly linked to his social media activism. This is also supported by the testimony of Aminu Mohammed, a resident of Ejura and a friend of the late Kaaka”, portions of the report read. This conclusion by the committee has been rejected by the family of Macho Kaaka who holds that the report is riddled with contradictions. A brother of Macho Kaaka told Citi FM that the family has existed peacefully and that there was no rancour between them.

General News of Tuesday, 28 September 2021Source: gbcghanaonline.comThe Alliance for Social Equity & Public Accountability (ASEPA) has petitioned Parliament to investigate outcomes of the 2020 general election. In a statement signed by the Executive Director of ASEPA, Mensah Thompson said, it noted that Parliament must take up the responsibility of accounting to Ghanaians details of the preparations and conduct of the elections. “The elections right from the preparations to declaration recorded a number of fundamental breaches, violations and discrepancies which eventually led to the 2021 election petition hearing at the Supreme Court. ASEPA is of the view that among the specific issues that it believed justified the need for a Parliamentary probe into the elections are that, “the Electoral Commission made 6 different amendments to its official declaration of the 2020 General Elections within 12 hours after its declaration on December 9, 2020″. “For Ghana’s democracy to flourish, it is important that Parliament exercises its oversight responsibilities and ensures that the Electoral Commission is made to account to Ghanaians,” according to ASEPA’s statement.

General News of Tuesday, 28 September 2021Source: ghanaiantimes.com.ghThe government has been urged to invest in epidemic preparedness to reduce its impact on social and economic life if they occurred in the future. Harriet Nuamah Agyemang, Senior Programme Officer, SEND Ghana, said, it was imperative that efforts were made to prevent its occurrence or containing its impact by increasing funding for epidemic preparedness and response through the annual national budget. The engagement formed part of a yet-to-be-launched campaign by SEND Ghana to promote investments in preparation for epidemics. She said Ghana had already developed a national action plan for health security aimed at adequately preparing and effectively responding to epidemics. However, the implementation of the plan had suffered setbacks due to limited or no funding dedicated to it, leaving the country unprepared for epidemics, Madam Agyemang added.

“The residents of Ejura are not satisfied, the residents want the soldiers who shot and killed their relatives to be also sanctioned. “The committee has usurped the work of the Police and veered into other areas on who killed Kaaka. The committee also recommended adequate Compensation for the families of the two deceased persons, namely, Abdul Nasir Yusif and Murtala Suraj Mohammed. Also, the committee recommended the structural expansion of the Ejura Police Station and an increase in personnel. They also recommended the removal of the Ejura–Sekyedumase Municipal Chief Executive, Honourable Mohammed Salisu Bamba, since his continuous presence as MCE would exacerbate the already tense security situation in Ejura.

“Who at all is Twene Jonas for this government, serious as it is, to send someone to go and expose him for whatever reason? “It is useless and utter nonsense for people to say we were in the United States to haunt Twene Jonas,” a visibly angry Owusu Bempah charged. Nana Hemaa also denied claims that Twene Jonas has been fired from his job, revealing that Twene Jonas continues to work with his company as he has not violated any rule. Over here, the system works so if the Ghanaian government wants Twene Jonas, the American state will not hand him over to them. They are rather making the US rich because the American government will protect Twene Jonas," she said.

Again, fiscal consolidation and debt sustainability concerns continue to haunt the economy, as the public debt has further risen to 76.4 percent of GDP as of July. These and other factors, the MPC noted, makes it necessary for further monitoring, hence, its decision to maintain the policy rate at 13.5 percent. In addition, debt sustainability concerns remain, which warrants additional fiscal consolidation efforts, carefully balanced with sustainable growth strategies and efficient debt management strategies. Although food inflation has pushed overall inflation close to the upper limit of the band, core inflation remains relatively subdued. A close monitoring of the inflation situation is however warranted to respond swiftly to prevent potential second round effects on headline inflation from the rising food inflation.
