A total count of 2,670 cases of banking fraud were recorded in 2020, as compared to 2,311 reported cases in 2019. In all, there were 2,670 cases of fraud reported in 2020, up from the 2,311 cases reported in 2019. This is contained in the 2020 banking industry fraud report released by the Bank of Ghana. The banking sector fraud is mainly done through the ATM/POS, impersonation and remittance, which had recorded significant increase in 2020. But poor personal safety perception and inadequate customer sensitisation by banking institutions caused an upsurge in fraud perpetrated through ATM/POS.

The trade debt was incurred due to BOST's failure to pay its trading partners that supplied it with petroleum products. With support from the Energy Ministry and the National Petroleum Authority, it had resumed the export of petroleum products to landlocked countries including Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. Meanwhile, BOST had saved the nation $26 million after it conducted a forensic audit into a $37 million claim made by some eight Bulk Distribution Companies (BDCs). BOST has also paid GHc61 million out of the GHc284 million domestic debt it owed some local banks.

The club ended last season empty-handed after missing out on the Ghana Premier League title and the MTN FA Cup. Kotoko is close to the signing of 2019/2020 Ugandan Premier League top scorer Steven Mukwala from Ugandan top-flight side Revenue Authority (URA FC). The club was intent on acquiring the signature of the striker last season but they failed to reach an agreement with his club before he joined Revenue Authority FC. It was after the abortive Kotoko move that the 22 year old Mukwala joined Revenue Authority FC were he scored 14 goals for them and ended the season as the third best striker in Uganda. He was behind Vipers SC forward Yunus Ssentamu and Erick Kambale from Express FC who registered 16 and 15 goals respectively.
