The workshop brought together stakeholders and experts playing diverse roles in the Export Processing Zones ecosystem in Ghana, to evaluate the economic, social, environmental, and technological performance of Ghana’s Export Promoting Zones under three important themes: sustainable Export Processing Zones policies, sustainable infrastructure, and sustainable regulatory support. He said we have focused on handing off-licenses to firms to operate in free zones to the neglect of the development of infrastructure in these enclaves. The study made some key findings during the period of investigation pertaining to measures and processes in developing sustainable export processing zones. Economic sustainability of Export Processing ZonesThe report found that Ghana’s Export Processing Zones program is not well connected to the country’s broader development agenda, and other industrial policies of the government. It also uncovered that there were no rigorous checks to religiously safeguard the interest of the state in the free zones scheme which has been embroiled in waves of abuse and revenue leakages that are left unattended to.

His comment comes on the back of claims that Ghana has acquired Sputnik V vaccine at a cost higher than the international market price. Speaking on 3FM Friday, June 11, Dr Nsiah Asare said government is opened to receive proposals that can help Ghana get vaccines at a lower price. “If anybody can get these vaccines for 10 dollars, go to the Ministry of Health and tell them you can get it for 10 dollars,” he said. He said it is time to roll out entrepreneurial support for the youth in the country and sensitize them to appreciate entrepreneurship rather than just forecasting their hope on government. Speaking on an Accra-based Angle FM, Mr Kufuor said, many developed countries invest in entrepreneurship and it is time to also replicate that in Ghana. “Countries like Russia, South Korea, China, Singapore and the likes all invested in entrepreneurship and it is time we learn from that. Our forefathers were engaging in all these and were not depending on the government for any help yet they were comfortable, they were engaged in entrepreneurship and that was their source income. We need to start investing in entrepreneurship,” he said.

Speaking to Citi News, Prof. Gordon said stray animals pose the biggest threat to young seedlings. He also said planting 50 million trees rather than the 5 million would have been a great idea. “I think this is a fantastic initiative that I would say should be 50 million not five million trees. When you look at the amount that we lose annually, we need 50 million plantings every year to make up for the losses. At Legon, we had our own tree planting project which I was part of some years back.

The harmonized standards are to be adopted by individual African countries, facilitating cross-border trade, under the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA). There are 1432 international automotive standards worldwide largely developed by the International Organization for Standardizations and the American Society for Testing and Materials. To initiate the process of developing African Automotive standards, ARSO prioritized what is referred to as “Whole Vehicle Standards” encompassing motor vehicle components, accessories, and replacement parts. ARSO is planning to launch the completed harmonized African Automotive standards by June 2021 in six countries, namely Rwanda, Ghana, Nigeria, Malawi, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. He said solutions must be found and not just talks since corruption go beyond just talks. He was discovered dead in a prone position with a piece of cloth covering his waist. An inspection conducted on the body by the police revealed no physical marks of violence. On Tuesday, 8th June, the lifeless body of a married man was also found at Agomanya at dawn on a footbridge in the community. About three weeks ago, the lifeless body of another male adult was found at Kpongunor by residents. “So far we are still investigating but nothing points to murder because there were no physical marks on the bodies when the investigators inspected,” she said.

The Inspector-General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh, directors at the police headquarters, others planted 50 trees at the National Police Training School. Officers commanding the 6 police training schools have also planted 50 seedlings to commemorate the day. Addressing the media, James Oppong-Boanuh said, "We all know that today, Ghana is planting trees to green our environment and as part of our (Ghana Police Service) contribution to the project, we will plant 5,000 trees out of the 5 million trees earmarked by government to be planted nationwide. My colleagues from the police management board and myself and Directors at the National Police headquarters are going to plant 50 trees at the national police training school here. Our officers commanding all 6 police training schools will equally plant 50 seedlings each today," he added.
