According to him, beyond the unwarranted delay in the nominations especially for a president who inherited himself – as in secured reelection – the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government seem to have turned the normal process on its head. He wondered why a list submitted to the president will now to transmitted to the sector minister instead of the other way round. Is it the president who is asking the Minister for Local Government to accept his nomination or what? “List of MMDCE nominees finalized by President Akufo-Addo; it will be submitted in the morning to the Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Hon. It is, however, unclear if the President’s list submitted to Dan Botwe is based on the same recommended persons from the vetting committee.

Ghana gets fertilizer dashboard to bridge information gap
Business News of Saturday, 18 September 2021Source: GNAA new dashboard, known as the “Visualising Insights on Fertilizer for African Agriculture,” has been created for Ghana to serve as an information generation tool to help enrich decision-making among stakeholders in the fertilizer industry. It was developed in partnership with the AfricaFertilizer.org (AFO), a premier source for fertilizer statistics and information in Africa, of the International Fertilizer Development Centre (IFDC). He said the tool would specifically fill key fertilizer information gaps; provide data to help policy and investment decisions; as well as make up-to-date and comprehensive fertilizer data available to meet the needs of stakeholders. Mr Gyasi said the dashboard would be able to give accurate monthly information on those happenings within the Centre to enable players to be properly informed, especially at the policy level. The launch would be attended by major stakeholders, including officials from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, COCOBOD, AGRA, USAID, other development partners, as well as fertilizer producing companies.

No local coach applied for the Black Stars job - Randy Abbey

A new coach is expected to be named in the coming days with Serbian and former Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac who is currently unemployed linked with a return. The GFA constituted a three member committee headed by the Association's Vice President Mark Addo, Upper East Regional Football Association Chairman, Alhaji Salifu Zida and Randy Abbey. He says that all the applications received were from expatriates with no Ghana coach applying for the vacant job.

Carpenter gets five years for torching rival’s room

Emmanuel Agyekum, aka Donkor, told the Police that the complainant, Mr Samuel Kweku Adila, was chasing his girlfriend. He pleaded guilty with explanation on the charge of causing unlawful damage to a room and its content. The Court, presided over by Madam Sedinam Awo Balokah, after listening to Agyekum’s explanation, said his explanation confirmed his guilt. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo narrated that the complainant, Samuel Kweku Adila, was a tailor residing at Borteyman near Nmai Dzorm.

U.S. opens public health centre in Ashanti Region
Health News of Saturday, 18 September 2021Source: GNAMadam Stephanie Sullivan, the United States (US) Ambassador to Ghana, Friday said as part of the US’ support for Ghana’s public health system and COVID-19 response, it had established a Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) in the Ashanti Region. Madam Sullivan toured the new Centre in Kumasi, in the company of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Simon Osei-Mensah, and the Ghana Health Service Director General, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye. It said as seen throughout the pandemic, a command and control centre that included relevant health system stakeholders was essential for the effective coordination of COVID-19 response strategies. The statement said a PHEOC served as the central command centre and brought together important stakeholders and experts for coordinated responses to public health events and threats like COVID-19, polio, and Ebola. It said the Ashanti, Northern and Western regional PHEOCs were the result of collaboration between the Ghana Health Service, Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, the Korean International Cooperation Agency, and the CDC.

Collective efforts needed to curb youth extremism - NCCE

Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed, the Deputy Central Regional Director of NCCE, at a public sensitisation forum at Biriwa, said peaceful coexistence guaranteed national peace and cohesion. The programme, sponsored by the National Security, sought to educate the public, particularly the youth, on the devastating impacts of secessionism and violent extremism to prevent such activities and its dire consequences on national development.
