ECOWAS on Thursday imposed sanctions, including a freeze in financial assets and travel bans, on the military junta in Guinea. The military junta who call themselves the National Rally and Development Committee, closed all land and air borders for a week. President Conde, Guinea’s longest ruler is still being held by the coup makers.

In its place, the Ashanti Regional Director of the NHIA, Kwadwo Tweneboa-Kodua, has said, the Ghana card, or what is known as the ECOWAS card, will replace it. This means that from January 1, next year, SSNIT contributors will no longer use their scheme numbers but will transact all business with SSNIT with their Ghana Card. Ministry of CommunicationsWhile speaking about the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation’s plan to have a SIM card re-registration exercise, expected to commence at the beginning of next month, sector minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, said that citizens would be required to use the Ghana card in that exercise. “Only the National ID card, the Ghana card, issued to an individual shall be used for registration of Sim cards of citizens, foreign residents in Ghana and foreigners staying in Ghana for more than 90 days,” she said early September. NHISAs earlier stated, by December this year, the Ghana Card will replace the use of the National Health Insurance Scheme’s card.

Sports News of Friday, 17 September 2021Source: ghanafa.orgAshantigold SC and Inter Allies FC have both been charged by the GFA Prosecutor on counts of misconduct for match manipulation in their 2020/21 Ghana Premier League Week 34 match played at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on July 17, 2021. After investigations into the acts of misconduct, the GFA Prosecutor charged Ashantigold SC on three counts of misconduct for breaching Article 34(5)(a), Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019, Article 18(1) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019. Inter Allies FC have also been charged on two counts of misconduct for breaching Article 34(5)(a) and Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019. Both Clubs are expected to submit their Statements of Defence to the charges on or before Wednesday, September 22 after which the GFA Disciplinary Committee will adjudicate their cases respectively. Some players and officials of both clubs have also been charged.

For us, as a chamber, we don’t think this is the time to discuss the matter of direct taxation of mobile money,” Laryea said this at 18th Knowledge Forum organised by the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications. “There are various ways by which mobile money is taxed. By virtue of the fact that you have mobile money running, you have businesses who leverage the platform and also pay taxes. We definitely think that taxing mobile money directly is like taxing the cash in your pocket,” Ashigbey explained. Meanwhile, government has already began stakeholder engagements with mobile money agents, merchants in the country ahead of a possible introduction of taxes on mobile money transactions.

The Minister and his entourage visited Aburaman Senior High School (SHS), Nyankomasi SHS, and Nsuta SHS where a total of 1,819 candidates waited in vain to write the papers. "We are disappointed in WAEC for cancelling the papers through no fault of ours. Fordjour expressed the government's determination to ensure the successful conduct of the ongoing WASSCE and was optimistic about the candidates' preparedness towards quality WASSCE results to transition them into various tertiary institutions of their choice. Mustapha Ussif said that the renovation forms part of the government’s drive to ensure that all sports facilities are in the best shape for use. The Baba Yara Sports Stadium, which serves as home grounds for Kumasi Asante Kotoko, King Faisal and other lower-division clubs was closed for renovation in February 2020. The Minister also disclosed during his address that, the facility will be under 24hrs CCTV surveillance.

According to a Graphic report sighted by GhanaWeb, the said kidnapper is demanding a ransom for the return of the 28-year-old woman who is said to be 9-months pregnant. The expectant mother reportedly went missing on the dawn of Thursday, September 16, 2021. According to Mr Paul Simon, identified as the husband of the missing woman, his wife failed to return home after going for a routine dawn walk. He reported the incident to the police and later indicated that the mother had received a phone call from a suspected kidnapper who is demanding a ransom for the release of his wife. The police in Takoradi have since commenced investigation into the circumstances that led to the pregnant woman going missing.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Revenue Mobilization taskforce of the ECG, the energy minister pointed that cyber security efforts are critical to rectify power distribution losses and seal revenue leakages. Therefore, this physical revenue taskforce is not enough. He added that the use of technology has become necessary to aid the power distribution efforts effectively to consumers and also curb illegal incidents of power theft and connections. Meanwhile, the Revenue Mobilization taskforce of the ECG is mandated to track revenue losses that occur through power transmission losses across the country.

Dr Boadu said the Volta region recorded 35 cases, Oti region, 22; Bono East region, 21; and Western North region, 17. She noted that media reportage on suicide cases contributed to the increasing cases while mental health challenges also played a major role. Dr Boadu said her office will continue to intensify the advocacy and promotion of mental health and also train more health workers to be able to identify common mental health disorders. She called on the government and civil society organisations to invest more in mental health. He noted that mental health issues have not been given the necessary attention they deserve because the nation has inadequate mental health facilities to take care of patients.
