A United Airlines scheduled flight out of New York bound for Rome has been forced to make a precautionary return to New York Newark Airport. United Airlines flight UA510 New York – RomeUnited Airlines flight UA510, a Boeing 777-200ER operating a transatlantic service from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport (FCO) in Rome made a precautionary return less than an hour after departure. The aircraft executed a decent to below 10,000 feet and made a precautionary return to New York Newark (EWR) at the reduced altitude of 9,000 feet. Flight UA510 did not declare a formal emergency, and the aircraft subsequently initiated a direct return to the departure airport, having made the descent to lower altitude. The aircraft then proceeded on flight plan track normally, before experiencing problems as it approached Halifax, Nova Scotia at cruising altitude FL370.

Human rights researchers have condemned the program, citing dangerous working conditions, exploitation and rampant abuse of migrant workers in Saudi Arabia, which largely go unpunished. Operating as middlemen and connecting domestic workers to jobs across the kingdom, recruitment brokers have a track record of mistreating domestic workers. At least 89 Kenyan domestic workers mysteriously died in Saudi Arabia between 2020 and 2021. A recent agreement that it signed in April with the government of Lebanon offered no protections or even a minimum salary for Ethiopian workers. In reality, domestic workers in Saudi Arabia typically earn around 1,000 riyals ($362) monthly.

This year, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee is reviewing nominations from both 2022 and 2023, with participants from across the world attending the session in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to examine almost 50 contenders. According to UNESCO, sites must be of “outstanding universal value” to be included on the World Heritage List. Once a landmark is given UNESCO World Heritage status, the country or nation it’s based in can receive financial assistance, as well as expert advice from UNESCO to help preserve the site. So far, the World Heritage Committee has inscribed approximately 1,157 sites in 167 different countries onto the World Heritage List. The African Development Bank (AfDB) on Wednesday announced it had approved 104 million U.S. dollars in funding to improve power supply in Ethiopia. The AfDB said in a press statement that the money would go to financing a transmission project to improve power supply in eastern Ethiopia. The transmission project would improve access to clean and reliable electricity supply by increasing the capacity of the power grid in eastern Ethiopia, the bank said. The project will involve the construction of 157 km of 400-kilovolt double-circuit transmission lines and associated sub-stations in Harar, Jijiga and Fafem cities in eastern Ethiopia. The Ethiopian government previously announced its plan to increase the country’s export revenue from electric power to 400 million U.S. dollars within the coming ten years.

ADDIS ABABA, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tadesse Degefa, a senior cupper at S.A Bagersh Private Limited Company (PLC), a renowned Ethiopian coffee firm and the birthplace of coffee Arabica, is witnessing a surge in interest among Ethiopian coffee producers and exporters to penetrate the rapidly growing Chinese coffee market. Degefa emphasizes the uniqueness of Ethiopian coffee beans, which are grown organically in the highlands without the use of chemicals or herbicides. He argues this uniqueness of the Ethiopian coffee beans as well as its cupping and production process offers coffee exporters an important impetus towards penetrating the lucrative Chinese coffee market. However, the ECA said it has received concerns and requests from several prospective investors to extend the deadline for RFQ submission. The latest announcement has raised concerns about the authority’s ability to execute its plan to grant the much-awaited second telecommunications license by the end of 2023. Only a month ago, Balcha Reba, the Director General of ECA, confidently stated that all the essential groundwork for the second license tender process had been finalized. Having secured one of the two licenses opened to private telecommunication operators in May 2021, Safaricom Ethiopia has emerged as the second telecom provider.
