Law enforcement authorities in Ethiopia are targeting venues frequented by LGBTQ+ people in the nation, particularly in the capital city, Addis Ababa, in an effort to root out so-called homosexual activity, while LGBTQ+ Ethiopians are being subjected to violence by private citizens. The following day, on August 5, the Addis Ababa Police Commission issued a statement echoing the Tourism Ministry’s message. The House of Guramayle adds that its activists have viewed several videos on TikTok that encourage violence against LGBTQ+ Ethiopians both in the country and abroad. There have been numerous physical attacks on LGBTQ+ people in Ethiopia as a result, the organization says. The statement outlines the policy measures the central bank believes can help reduce inflation in a significant and sustained manner. The ominous specter of a socio-economic catastrophe that this phenomena poses is liable to precipitate a political instability that must be averted before it causes irreparable harm. However, the manner in which they have been soaring is not only unfair, but also far outstrips the rise in income levels. These steps may go some way toward bringing down inflation to the level projected by NBE in the short-term. In the absence of a political commitment, any attempt to bring down the country’s rampant inflation is bound to fall flat.

WASHINGTON (AP) — After nearly three weeks of appealing to the United States and other allies for help restoring Niger’s president to power, friends and supporters of the democratically elected leader are making a simpler plea: Save his life. The beleaguered president and his ambassador, whom junta members have declared out of a job, talk one or more times a day. However, an activist who supports Niger's new military rulers in its communications said the reports of the president's dire state were false. Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland met with Niger's junta members in the capital this week but called them unreceptive to her demands to restore Niger's democracy. Blinken has expressed broad support for ECOWAS, whose diplomatic efforts have been spurned by the Niger junta and which has warned of military force as a last resort.

The proposal to establish a new “Central Ethiopia” regional state out of existing Southern Nation Nationalities and Peoples Regional State (SNNPR) continues to generate debate, with little clarity on its ultimate fate. Among leading the opposition is Jemil Sanni of the Gurage Unity and Justice Party, citing Ethiopia’s constitutionally enshrined right to self-determination. - Advertisement -However, the government proposes creating a Central Ethiopia as a solution without holding any referendum, fueling accusations of high-handedness from figures like Jemil. He argued any solution requires careful consideration and consensus, with no one-size-fits-all answer for the complex ethnic federalism challenges facing Ethiopia. The strategy will help alleviate the tense situation that arose as a result of the formation of the Sidama regional state and the conflict over Hawassa city.
