Anti-Ethiopian racism in Israel must be rooted out - editorial
On Tuesday, Liel – an Ethiopian Israeli combat soldier serving in the IDF’s Givati Brigade – experienced blatant racial discrimination at the Jilbon Farm restaurant in the Golan Heights, Channel 12 reported. Liel and his team went out for a meal at the restaurant after a day of military training. “I’m proof that you can overcome the challenge.”At the time, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu invited Pakada for a meeting and pledged to eradicate racism and police violence against Ethiopian Israelis. Making aliyah in several waves, including Operations Moses, Joshua, and Solomon, many Ethiopian Israelis still struggle to integrate into Israeli society amid lingering complaints of discrimination. Jews have suffered extreme racism throughout their long history, and there must be zero tolerance for racism of any kind in the Jewish state.

Ethiopia: LGBTIQ+ Rights in Ethiopia Under Spotlight Again
Harare — Ethiopian security personnel are repressing what it calls LGBTIQ+ sexual conduct at hotels, pubs, and restaurants in the nation's capital, Addis Ababa, according to Reuters. According to rights organisations, the LGBTIQ+ community in Ethiopia remains very much hidden because its members experience severe discrimination and fear violence and rejection if their identities are known. "Addis Ababa city peace and security administration office in cooperation with Addis Ababa police has started taking action on institutions suspected of committing homosexual acts in our city," Addis Ababa City Communication posted on their Facebook page. "House of Guramayle condemns the recent escalation in attacks on individuals in Ethiopia based on their real or perceived sexual orientation and gender identity. As a result, individuals suspected of belonging to the LBGTQIA+ community are being physically attacked in Ethiopia."

North Bay camp gives Jewish children of color a haven to be different together
PETALUMA -- One camper, from Oakland, has a white Jewish mother and a father who is Black and Muslim. Another was adopted in Uganda by a white Jewish woman; they now live in Montana. Its founders say it's the only sleepaway summer camp specifically serving Jewish children of color, creating a safe space for candid conversations on race and identity. "It's like a family and having been here makes people more comfortable when they're not here," said Josiah, who attends a Jewish day school in San Francisco. Ethiopia: De-escalate tensions in Amhara, international rights experts urge

The International Commission of Human Rights Experts took note of the declaration of the state of emergency, adding that it required approval by the House of Peoples’ Representatives, as per the Ethiopian Constitution. “Previous states of emergency have been accompanied by violations of human rights,” the Commission said in a statement on Thursday. The International CommissionThe International Commission was established by the UN Human Rights Council in December 2021 to conduct an impartial investigation into allegations of violations of international human rights law, international humanitarian law and international refugee law in Ethiopia committed since 3 November 2020, which marked the start of the conflict in Tigray. The body comprises three human rights experts appointed by the President of the HRC.

Ethiopia hikes emergency loan rate, targets below-20% inflation by mid-2024
Ethiopia's central bank (NBE) raised the interest rate on its emergency lending facility to 18% from 16%, it said, one of several measures announced on Friday aimed at cutting inflation of close to 30% to below 20% by mid-2024. Commercial banks use the facility when they face liquidity problems. Annual inflation had held above 30% for two years until easing to 29.3% in June. Israel, Jewish Agency rescue Israelis, immigrants-to-be from war-torn region of Ethiopia

Those eligible for Israeli citizenship must first receive travel documents from Ethiopian authorities, the Jewish Agency official said.
