In August 2023, Ethiopia's coffee industry achieved a significant milestone as it garnered USD 140 million in revenue from exporting 27,000 tons of coffee. Despite a significant decline in global coffee prices recently, Ethiopia's coffee exports have continued to flourish. This resilience can be attributed to the nation's ability to provide coffee products that remain resilient to shifting market conditions. Adugna Debela, the Director-General of the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA), attributed this surge in coffee exports to the comprehensive reforms implemented within the sector over the past couple of years. Additionally, the authority aims to surpass the USD 2 billion mark in coffee income within the next two years.
