BloombergIf the fashion world wants to have less of an impact on the planet, the best solution would be to produce less. But well-known brands still seem to think sales can keep ticking up as usual. Global fashion chains are starting to talk about a radical overhaul of the clothing business. To fix this, brands want to become more "circular," which would involve changing every part of the fashion supply chain. If shoppers take notice, more mainstream fashion labels might struggle to meet their growth targets, considering their resistance to raising prices.

REUTERSInternational airports in Thailand have come alive over the past week, with more than 12,000 travellers flying in, mostly from 63 countries which have been exempted from quarantine or area restrictions. SLOW LEISURE MARKETThis year has turned out to be a tumultuous time for the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), which was forced to revise its tourism target three times. He said entry regulations might not be decisive factors anymore as Thailand was already a step ahead by offering a more simplified process from November. But to sustainably attract the international market, Phuket must return to its core strength since before the pandemic -- outstanding tourism products. He believed tourism operators would not object to this idea.

PM's aide: 'lese majeste untouchable'Anti-government demonstrators gather in front of the United Nations Conference Centre on Ratchadamnoen Avenue in Bangkok on Dec 10, 2020, calling for the repeal of Section 112 of the Criminal Code. (Photo: Pornprom Satrabhaya)It is impossible to repeal Section 112 of the Criminal Code, also known as the lese majeste law, both in technicality and spirit, and doing so runs counter to the constitution, said Thipanan Sirichana, the former deputy spokeswoman of the ruling Palang Pracharath Party. Abolishing the lese majeste law intended to provide legal protection to the monarch from insults and dishonour would, in essence, contravene the constitution, she said. Section 112, which is reserved for the head of state and categorised as a national security law, works differently from the defamation law which applies to citizens. She said it was puzzling that Progressive Movement secretary-general Piyabutr Saengkanokkul, who is a legal expert, has shown a lack of understanding of the law.

Forecast suggests EV tax changes will be gradualPeople inspect an electric vehicle at the Bangkok International Motor Show 2021 held in March and April this year. The source added that the tax restructure might be gradually implemented to give existing domestic vehicle manufacturers time to adjust to changes in relation to the country's promotion of EVs. Chinese EV manufacturers are expected to reap the full benefit of the measure, thanks to 0% duty on the import of EVs from China. The government's target is for 30% of all cars used in Thailand to be EVs by 2025. The country's current vehicle excise tax structure is based on engine power and carbon dioxide emission rates.

'China is ready' to make RCEP trade deal tariff cutsHONG KONG: China is on track to cut tariffs when an Asia-Pacific trade deal comes into force at the start of next year, according to the Ministry of Commerce. It said China was ready to implement all 701 binding obligations, including tariff cuts and changes to rules on the origin of goods. Signed by 15 countries in November last year, the RCEP is the world's biggest regional trade deal and expected to link about 30% of the world's people and output. China already has a number of bilateral trade agreements, and this is the first time it has signed up to a regional multilateral trade pact. China is also aiming to join the Japan-led Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), which proposes deeper tariff cuts than the RCEP and covers more trade areas.

Chinese exports solid in October as Covid eases overseasChina's exports rose by a better-than-expected clip in October 2021SHANGHAI - China's exports rose by a better-than-expected clip in October, official data showed on Sunday, with demand strengthening in some key markets such as the United States and Covid numbers easing overseas. The data from the world's second-largest economy also suggested that Chinese factories had kept the goods flowing out despite power outages in recent months caused by emission reduction targets, the surging price of coal, and supply shortages. The government said last week that the power crisis was winding down thanks to a boost in domestic coal output. Exports rose a better-than-expected 27.1 percent on-year in October, according to customs authorities, to $300.2 billion. In recent months, several Chinese factories were forced to halt operations due to power outages, raising concerns about global supply chains.

More than 3,000 migrants were caught entering the country without going into quarantine first during a crackdown on illegal border crossings by the Internal Security Operations Command (Isoc). The reopening of the country by air to residents of several countries on Nov 1 has prompted illegal migrants to enter via the northeastern and eastern borders in search of work, Isoc spokesman Sitthichai Makkunchorn said. He said the illegal crossers posed a public health risk as they were not tested for Covid-19 or subject to quarantine. In Kamphaeng Phet on Saturday, 20 illegal Myanmar migrants were rounded up in tambon Na Bor Kham in Muang district. In Chiang Rai, the army has intercepted seven Myanmar nationals who illegally crossed into Thailand from the border town of Tachileik yesterday.

Djokovic breaks idol Sampras's world number one recordSerbia's Novak Djokovic is assured of finishing the season world number one for a record seventh time after beating Hubert Hurkacz in the Paris Masters semi-finals. PARIS: Novak Djokovic gained some consolation for missing out on a Grand Slam sweep this year when he was crowned season-ending world number one for a record seventh time on Saturday. "It is a dream for me as Pete was my idol when I was a young boy," said Djokovic. Djokovic -- who broke Roger Federer's record of weeks at number one earlier this year -- said it was hard to rank his records. Djokovic can take some satisfaction that he denied Medvedev the world number one spot, though the Russian admitted his chances of toppling the Serbian were slim.
