The Constitutional Court has dismissed a petition seeking a review of the memorandum of agreement signed by the Bhumjaithai Party and the People’s Party prior to the formation of the incumbent government, citing the petitioner’s lack of legal standing. The court declined to consider the petition by Pol Col Ratthakhet Jaengchamrus, who had requested the review under Section 213, governing a citizen’s right to complain, in the constitution. The petition claimsd that the agreement signed by the two parties last Sept 3 was in violation of the charter. Under the agreement, People’s Party MPs pledged to vote for Bhumjaithai leader Anutin Charnvirakul to be prime minister to break a political deadlock, in exchange for Bhumjaithai agreeing to support a push for constitutional changes. The court said the facts and supporting documents submitted did not show the petitioner’s constitutional rights or freedoms had been violated as a result of the respondents’ actions.
