(Photo: Reuters)KYODO — Toyota Motor Corp will increase its global hybrid vehicle production in 2028 by 30% from the level planned for this year, accounting for some 60% of its worldwide output, sources close to the matter said Thursday. The plan, conveyed to parts suppliers, to make 6.7 million hybrid cars including plug-in hybrids in 2028 considers slowing electric vehicle (EV) demand that has forced the European Union (EU) to scale back its EV promotional policies. Toyota, the world's largest automaker by volume, said in November it will additionally invest up to US$10 billion in the United States over five years. Hybrids made up more than 40% of Toyota's global sales of about 10.54 million vehicles in 2025.
