Intense competition among candidates is expected to take place in 211 locations in 39 provinces, which could see violations of the local election law committed, Pol Gen Damrongsak said. In light of this, a total of 86,844 police officers will be deployed to maintain security at the polling stations, Pol Gen Damrongsak said.

Speaking at a seminar entitled "Boost Up Thailand 2022", Deputy Prime Minister Supattanapong Punmeechaow said despite persistent Covid-19 infections in the country, the value of Thailand's investment applications remains intact. The applications stood at 756 billion baht in 2019 and 481 billion baht in 2020. Mr Supattanapong said many investment projects in clean energy including renewable energy such as solar power are scheduled to be implemented next year. "Clean energy will play a key role in luring foreign investment to Thailand on electrical vehicles [EVs] next year," he said.

Visitors arrive at Suvarnabhumi airport in Samut Prakan province on Monday. The first group of foreign visitors arrives at Suvarnabhumi airport where they went through health and documentary checks on Monday, officially marking Thailand's reopening to vaccinated tourists. The first to arrive on Monday morning at the airport was an All Nippon Airways flight from Tokyo. Suvarnabhumi airport's general manager, Kittipong Kittikachorn, said the majority of the flights arrived from Europe. According to the Transport Ministry's estimates, about 3,260 international flights will arrive at Suvarnabhumi airport this month, carrying 135,407 passengers, while 3,241 international flights will depart with 135,122 passengers. Fully vaccinated visitors from other countries will also be allowed to visit the country, though only through a tourism sandbox programme which is currently in place in 17 provinces.
