MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga—Police arrested a suspected drug peddler, who yielded some P153,000 worth of “shabu” (crystal meth) in a buy-bust operation Tuesday in San Rafael village in Tarlac City. In a statement, Tarlac police director Col. Renante Cabico identified the suspect as Renato Chavez, 42, a resident of Caloocan City. He said the suspect is on the police list of suspected drug personalities in Tarlac. Daniel Fernando, who has been his political ally for 12 years. The Inquirer learned that Alvarado had been in quarantine after he contracted COVID-19 recently. LEGAZPI CITY—Police arrested two suspected drug personalities and seized about P68,000 worth of shabu (crystal meth) in a buy-bust operation Tuesday in Naga City, a report said Wednesday. PNP ordered: Prepare for influx of candidates beating COC deadlineA granular lockdown has been enforced in Barangay 123 in Caloocan City starting Friday(September 17, 2021) night due to a surge in COVID-19 cases in the area. "We are in the sixth day of filing of COCs and CONAs so we expect an influx of candidates to catch up with the October 8 deadline," Police Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said in a statement sent to reporters Wednesday. Eleazar called on the candidates themselves to take the lead in preventing the filing of their COCs and CONAs into a super spreader event. MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines’ count of active COVID-19 cases is now at 112,807 as of Wednesday as the Department of Health (DOH) reports 9,868 new infection cases, a lower figure due to lower testing laboratory output. The active cases compose 4.3 percent of the total 2,622,917 cases that were detected in the country since the pandemic began. Of the active cases, 90.6 percent are either mild or asymptomatic. A 55-year-old merchant who assaulted Carson Yeung Ka-sing, the former owner of English football club Birmingham City FC, has been released on bail. He cannot leave Hong Kong and must report to Tseung Kwan O Police Station every Thursday and Sunday. Yeung was the president of English football club Birmingham City FC from 2007 to 2014. Yeung in March 2014 was convicted of five counts of money laundering and was sentenced to six-year imprisonment.
