MANILA, Philippines — The Food and Drug Authority (FDA) has put up a special lane to expedite the emergency use approvals of drugs for the treatment of COVID-19. So far, Domingo said the FDA approved two more brands of the anti-inflammatory drug tocilizumab. “Gamot [siya] kontra sa inflammation na may severe arthritis na nakikita na maaaring gamitin sa COVID-19,” Domingo said in a public briefing. (It is a drug to counter inflammation with severe arthritis that may also be used for COVID-19.)

Cyber attack hits Gordon’s official website, goes down for hours
In a statement on Wednesday, Gordon’s office said the attack happened last October 4. According to Cruz, a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, usually “patched through the dark web by nefarious individuals in exchange for a high price,” caused a web services shutdown from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Administrators of dickgordon.ph were able to contain the problem by barring entry of traffic from outside the Philippines at around 1 p.m., Gordon’s office said. However, a foreign-led attack “persisted” until 3:04 p.m.“Past instances have linked DDoS attacks to destabilizing the online presence of an opposing party,” Gordon’s office added. The Senate blue ribbon committee, which Gordon chairs, is in the middle of an investigation into the government’s pandemic purchases last year.

The Chief Secretary for Administration John Lee Ka-chiu will take charge of tackling fake news and safeguarding cyber security, says Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor during her 2021 Policy Address. Speaking at Legco on Wednesday, Lam said the SAR has spared no effort to fulfill its responsibility to prevent, suppress and punish acts that endanger national security in accordance with the law. However, she said there is still a substantial amount of work to be done by the HKSAR government to safeguard national security in a comprehensive manner. “Issues which need to be addressed include combating fake news and safeguarding cyber security, the Chief Secretary for Administration will co-ordinate the relevant work,” said Lam. She also pointed out that the SAR will be proactively enact local legislation to implement Article 23 of the Basic Law in Hong Kong.
