CEBU CITY—A top city councilor has taken the plunge into the mayoral race, saying he was doing so for Cebuanos. Councilor David Tumulak filed a certificate of candidacy for mayor on Thursday (Oct. 7) just hours after members of the local party Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan filed theirs. These included former Mayor Tomas Osmeña and his wife Margarita, who is running for mayor. Tumulak, who served as radio announcer prior to becoming councilor, will face Cebu City Acting Mayor Michael Rama and Osmeña.

TACLOBAN CITY — Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and his cousin, Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez, filed their certificates of candidacy for the same positions on Thursday, Oct. 7. Rep. Romualdez, who is the current majority floor leader of the House of Representatives, is seeking a second term for Leyte’s first congressional district which covers Tacloban City and seven towns. “The priority legislation is to ensure the passage of the national budget which is to help fight against the pandemic. Alfred Romualdez, on the other hand, is seeking a second term as mayor of Tacloban under the Nacionalista Party with his 34-year old son, Raymund as his vice mayor. Romualdez was the mayor of the city when Tacloban was pummeled by Yolanda eight years ago.

Shernee Tan-Tambut filed the Kusug Tausug’s CONA CONA at Harbor Garden Tent at Sofitel in Pasay City. ADVERTISEMENT“Although her party list is most identified with Sulu, Kusug Tausug’s broad vision is to give protection to the most marginalized of Philippine society, particularly the Muslims,” her office said in a statement. Tan-Tambut served as the first nominee of Kusug Tausug — which means “strength of Tausugs” in the Tausug language. Should Kusug Tausug gain a seat again in the 2022 elections, it will be Rep. Tan-Tambut’s last term representing the party-list.

TACLOBAN CITY—The mayor of Maasin in Southern Leyte filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for reelection in the 2022 polls Wednesday. Joining Mayor Naccional Mercado were incumbent Vice Mayor Maloney Samaco and seven of the 10 reelectionist councilors. “On my last term, with your full support, let’s continue to aspire for more progress for our beloved city,” Mercado said. In Samar, a representative of Emil Zosa, who is facing murder charges in court, filed his COC for mayor of Santa Margarita town, a post currently held by his wife, Gemma. Zosa, a fugitive, was accused of killing Enrique Manas, Sr. in Barangay Bahay, Santa Margarita on July 23, 2017.

A 17-year-old swimmer is fighting for his life after he almost drowned in a swimming pool at Kowloon Park on Wednesday night. The teenager surnamed Wong was swimming with his friends in the pool around 8pm last night. They also performed resuscitation on the young man before medics arrived and rushed him to Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He is now in critical condition. Police are now investigating the cause of the incident as well as other details.

The NDRRMC also recorded 8,048 persons or 1,701 families in 21 barangays affected by Lannie in Mimaropa and Western Visayas regions. The Council said they are also estimating at least P12,225,109.47 damage on agriculture in the Western Visayas region. The NDRRMC also monitored two roads that are not passable in the Western Visayas region. The NDRRMC also said 16 houses were partially damaged while three were totally damaged in the Western Visayas region due to Lannie.
