"The ECP has declared that Imran Khan was involved in corrupt practices," Gohar Khan, one of his lawyers, told reporters, adding that he had been disqualified for five years. Imran said he was expecting his disqualification in the verdict announced by “biased” Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja. According to the reply, four units of the Toshakhana gifts were sold, and they were bought through a payment of Rs21.56 million.

The decision was made in a meeting of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), a global money laundering and terrorism financing watchdog, which starts a two-day meeting in Paris and is expected to take up the removal of Pakistan from a list of countries under "increased monitoring". In a meeting in June, the FATF said it was keeping Pakistan on the list - also known as the "grey list" - but said it might be removed after an on-site visit to verify progress. Last month, Pakistan s foreign office said a FATF technical team had conducted a "successful" visit and Islamabad was expecting a "logical conclusion" of the evaluation process in October.

ISLAMABAD – PTI Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan Friday asked his party workers and supporters to end protests sparked in several cities after the Election Commission of Pakistan disqualified him in the Toshakhan case. In a video statement, the PTI chief said that people were suffering due to road closures and traffic jams, asking the protesters to go back their homes. Khan also announced to challenge the ECP ruling in the court. PTI chief, who has been disqualified from holding public office, will no longer be able to retain any of his seats including the one he currently retains. ECP, in its verdict, also mentioned that criminal proceedings will be initiated against PTI chief for misdeclaration.

The nationwide tally of fatalities stands at 30,624 on Friday. According to the latest figures by the National Institute of Health (NIH), at least 45 persons were tested positive for COVID-19 across the country in the past 24 hours. Pakistan has conducted 10,840 tests in the past 24 hours out of which 45 persons were tested positive for the disease. The COVID Positivity Ratio was recorded at 0.42 percent.

She said the prime minister had directed the Power Minister to visit the flood-affected areas of Sindh to address the electricity supply problems. She said that the prime minister had allocated Rs70 billion for targeted cash relief for the flood affected people. Shazia said that the flood cash relief assistance had been disbursed among 2,648,824 families so far. A total of Rs 66.22 billion had been distributed to the affected families across the country through BISP to date, she said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said he is willing to hold talks with arch-rival Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the “larger national interest”, adding that the ruling PML-N and its coalitions partners have already sacrificed their political capital in an attempt to save the country from default. Refusing to divulge details about the possible backchannel talks with the PTI, PM Shehbaz said he is ready to “sacrifice everything” for national interest and added that the incumbent rulers sacrificed their political capital by taking tough economic decisions to save the country from default. His statement comes as former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan has warned the government of holding a long march to Islamabad if the date for early elections is not announced in a few days. The Ministry of Planning and Development will carry out the youth initiatives, which also include spending Rs40 billion in 20 most underdeveloped districts and building 250 mini sports complexes. The prime minister said the programme would be expanded further and more initiatives would be launched for the youth, who were a considerable part of the population.

In a meeting in June, the FATF said it was keeping Pakistan on the list -- also known as the ‘grey list’ -- but said it might be removed after an on-site visit to verify progress. If removed from the list, Pakistan would essentially receive a reputational boost and get a clean bill of health from the international community on terrorist financing. Pakistani officials were confident that the FATF team would give a positive assessment of the country’s progress.
