Sovereignty signifies the ultimate authority to oversee and steward the decision-making process of the state. True sovereignty also means the independence of the country from external directions or influence in the conduct of national and international affairs. Pakistan cannot afford to procrastinate the decades-old ambivalence between sovereignty and servitude. The preamble of the Constitution of Pakistan 1973, while reaffirming the sovereignty of Allah Almighty over the entire universe, unequivocally recognises the authority and sovereignty of the will of the people of Pakistan. The nation as a whole has to make a conscious, firm and final choice between sovereignty and servitude — both at the national and international levels.

To many, the US’ apprehensions about Pakistan’s nuclear status were always there since 1998. Neither was Pakistan dangerous when it was fighting against extremism and terrorism. Had anyone in Washington reminded the President of pressurizing Pakistan to ‘do more’ on any of America’s interests in the region? More importantly, what has the Biden administration gained in embarrassing an erstwhile strategic partner and a non-NATO ally? You were a ‘strategic’ partner for reasons known to all.

Media commentators, analysts and economists are criticising the fixed exchange rate regime followed by Pakistan from 2013 to 2017. They are of the opinion that the fixed rate is a prelude to an overvalued exchange rate, which makes export uncompetitive. If we notice carefully, the above tension is between the fixed exchange rate vs the flexible exchange rate. In the fixed exchange rate regime, the inflation rate was low in the country while the international interest rates also remained low. In the flexible exchange rate regime, the inflation rate remained high and the international interest rates started to increase in the first quarter of 2022.

So what is there to clean up following the home win to notch their fifth win of the season? Through the first four games, Texas was 15/45 on the money down for an abysmal 33% conversion rate.
