Murray is day to day, Clifford in red, and Jarnkrok is absent: Leafs Practice NotesPhoto credit: Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY SportsThe Leafs are coming out of their OT loss to the Golden Knights feeling okay about how things went, and honestly, I can’t blame them too much. They’ve taken 7 of 8 possible points in the last four games and that includes the Bruins, Canes, and Knights which haven’t been easy outs this season. In addition to the regularly scheduled line rushes the Leafs also have Kyle Clifford present in a red non-contact jersey, and Jordie Benn skating as the 7D. Unfortunately, the PK realities dictate Engvall will probably still be in. The Leafs play the Penguins Friday and the Canucks Saturday.

The recent murder of investigative journalist Arshad Sharif has highlighted the hazards of fighting on internal fronts. While the armed forces were deployed on the borders, the internal fronts were well fortified by the civilians. Almost everyone in those days was fighting on internal fronts. Then the onslaught started to push out the warriors of the internal fronts. The internal warriors like Prof. Hameed Ahmed Khan and Engr Abul Kalam are long gone, having been replaced by incompetent sycophants who have been trained to surrender without a fightUnless the internal frontiers are strengthened, the external areas cannot be fortified.

Working with the government of the time almost makes staying away from bureaucratic interference impossible since postings are handled by the administration of the time. All political parties have at one point or another highlighted this as a problem. All administrations complain of the problems the bureaucratic structure is littered with—there are delays in responsibilities being carried out, flouting of rules, and reported corruption. This is the only way to remove problems of governance and administration at the bureaucratic level.

Its National Security Strategies (NSS) are formulated, modified and revealed from time to time, keeping in line with varying interests and evolving threat perceptions. The web of such strategies is woven by all states to persevere, prosper and guard national interests. Therefore, Pakistan despite being an Indian Ocean Rim country with 1046km long coastline doesn’t even get a mention in Indo-Pacific and other strategies, less being scapegoated in Trump’s SA strategy. It becomes imperative that Pakistan makes the US understand its mutually interdependent relationship with China built over seven decades. The US and Pakistan have been allies and friends, so are China and Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif last week undertook a maiden visit to China. It was unusual that a newly elected Prime Minister of Pakistan had to wait too long for a bilateral trip to China. There were rumours that China was not happy with the change of government in Pakistan and hence was not ready to receive the new Prime Minister. Therefore, prior to PM Shehbaz’s visit Pakistan had taken certain steps to ally China’s concerns. Islamabad is now eyeing another $4.2 billion financial package — $3 billion safe deposits and $1.2 billion for oil on deferred payment.
