PHOTO: AGENCIESThe Supreme Court ordered Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan to be produced in court in an hour on Thursday, as it heard the PTI's plea challenging Imran's arrest in the Al-Qadir Trust case. Justice Minallah asked why anyone would trust the judiciary if those who surrendered in the court were arrested. Justice Minallah asked if the NAB had asked Imran to appear in a personal capacity. Justice Minallah stated that Justice Mazhar was talking about the implementation of the law and that the "real issue" was the right of access to justice. Justice Minallah asked how many notices were issued to Imran, to which the prosecutor said that only one notice was issued.

GENEVA: A “perfect storm” of overlapping crises forced tens of millions to flee within their own country last year, sending the number of internally displaced people to a record high, monitors said on Thursday. An unprecedented 71.1 million internally displaced people (IDPs) were registered in 2022 — up 20 percent from a year earlier — amid mass displacement from Russia’s war in Ukraine, as well as by the monsoon floods that drenched Pakistan. Beyond the 17 million displacements inside Ukraine last year, eight million were forced from their homes by Pakistan’s monster floods. More than 700,000 people have already become internally displaced by the fighting that erupted on April 15, while another 150,000 people have fled the country, according to UN numbers. “The war in Ukraine also fuelled a global food security crisis that hit the internally displaced hardest,” he said.

Says people did not come out in large numbers in favour of PTI Chairman Imran Khan after his arrest. Their mischievous acts were celebrated by the BJP and the RSS by distributing sweets,” Atta Tarar, who was flanked by Pakistan Muslime League-Nawaz leader Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha , told a news conference. Today, he has confessed to before the court that he has looted billions of the nation’s money through the Al Qadir Trust. The then-prime minister Imran Khan got approval of the settlement with the UK crime agency from his cabinet in December, 2019, without disclosing the details of the confidential agreement. He said the Islamabad District and Sessions Court had framed charges against Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case, in which the deposed premier was accused of taking gifts in an illegal manner.

(Representational Image Source:Twitter/kakanigovardhan)VIJAYAWADA: Agriculture minister Kakani Govardhana Reddy slammed the Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan for touring East Godavari district to interact with the rain-affected farmers by saying that it would yield no result as their government was committed to providing all help to the farmers. In a sharp reaction to the Jana Sena chief’s visit, the minister told media persons in Rajamahendravaram on Wednesday that by visiting the rain-hit farmers and inquiring about the damage or loss to the crops, they would not cast their votes for the Jana Sena. He described the tour of the three leaders to visit the rain-hit fields and console the farmers in order to absolve themselves from their sins, and he flayed them for trying to influence the farmers. However, the minister said that though the three leaders were trying to influence the farmers to get their support by touring the rain-hit areas like ‘Teertha Yatra’, they could not get the farmers’ support.

Only one sitting judge ventured to attend. Since Independence no sitting judge of the superior judiciary has ever sat with the legislators/accused. If Mr Justice Isa was invited as a guest he should have sat with the speaker which are the norms of the House. Justice Isa is next in line to take over as CJP in September on the retirement of Justice Umar Atta Bandial. Mr Justice Isa has to come clean before he takes on the mantle of CJP.

By: Samara AshratBangladesh, India and Japan held an event on connectivity initiatives in Tripura, India, last month, to harness the region’s commercial potential. That’s why Japan has proposed developing an industrial hub in Bangladesh with supply chains to the landlocked northeastern states of India. Along with the gateway, Tripura can become the key to creating an industrial hub in northeast India and its supply chain in Bangladesh. The Agartala-Akhaura international railway connectivity project is one of India and Bangladesh’s most prominent connectivity projects. And for creating supply chains, all those connectivity projects between Bangladesh and Tripura must get completed soon as Tripura is one of the main gateways to the northeastern region to India through Bangladesh.

In the history of nations, the rise and fall has always been a mystery and historians have thought a lot on: why does a nation develop? Change is a necessary factor for any state or society to develop because no system has the capacity to solve all human problems for all times to come. Another important reason one was the Black Death, which wiped out half of European population. The entire history of mankind is witness to the fact that the nations that become stagnant lose their existence. The important reason why our country is failing today is that we are determined to run our country on centuries-old thinking and methods.

The popularity of music concerts of famous singers, like, say, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Atif Aslam, may be judged by the fact that they are attended by thousands of people. A connoisseur of music myself, it gives me pleasure to know about the popularity of these concerts and other entertainment programmes. In the 1950s, male playback singing was dominated by Inayat Hussain Bhatti, Saleem Raza and Munir Hussain. Being disappointed with his fallen status in the industry, Saleem migrated to Canada in the early 1980s and died there after a few years. They will always owe their status to the legends who kept the music scene alive with their heart and soul even in tough times.
