The Army Chief said he was proud to have been the commander of the Pakistan Army for the last six years. They offered unprecedented sacrifices, which was acknowledged by former Indian Army Chief Field Marshal Manekshaw himself, he added. Political parties and people may come and go whereas the country will remain forever,” the Army Chief said. In the documentary, the statements of the families of the officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army who sacrificed their lives, were showcased.

Flood compensation packages further inequalities, vulnerabilities
Every disaster exposes vulnerabilities of individuals, communities, structures and systems almost proportionally to its scale. The amount offered for a mud house is far lesser than a pukka house. How on earth could one differentiate between a pukka and a mud house if they have already washed away? Should the packages be implemented honestly, the end result will most likely be deepening of pre-flood inequalities. Families which had mud house before will continue living in a mud house.

Pakistan’s default risk worsens
The perception of Pakistan’s risk of default has worsened with the five-year credit default swap (CDS) surging by 30 percentage points in a week to 93% on Monday ahead of the repayment of $1 billion for a maturing international bond early next month. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and many financial experts have reiterated that Pakistan will not default on any of the international payments and that volatility in the CDS had nothing to do with the country’s default risk. The yield was hovering at less than 10% before the Covid-19 outbreak in February 2020 in Pakistan, when the investors had high confidence in Pakistan’s capacity to repay them. Yields on the other two bonds worth a total of $2 billion maturing in 2024 and 2025 also increased during the day. Arif Habib Limited Head of Research Tahir Abbas said that the “CDS is a premium that investors pay to insure their investment in bonds against the risk of default”.

North Korea’s political creative minority turned into dominant minority and resulting in the state suffering from poverty, unemployment and disorder.

KP finance minster says Dar misled nation about Pakistan’s impending default
PESHAWARL: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Khan Jhagra said Sunday that Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar had misled the nation about Pakistan’s impending default. Jhagra said Moody’s and Fitch are the most reliable and independent ratings institutions and both have revised Pakistan’s economy outlook as “negative.” Therefore, jhagra said, the international market does not trust Pakistan economy. The Finance Minister claimed that the IMF has alleged that the international monetary fund had lost trust in Pakistan’s economy. The PM has announced a Rs100 billion subsidy on electricity for Punjab but after losing the government, the province’s funds were even stopped,” the Finance Minister said. He said Political stability is essential for stability of the economy but such stability can be restored only through free and fair early general elections.

Two commit suicide at Sea View
People beat the heat at Sea View Beach as mercury shoots up in the metropolis. PHOTO: ONLINEA man and a woman trapped in love with no solution to their relationship ended their lives by consuming poison at the Sea View Beach, a popular spot where couples come to spend time. Baig and S, residents of the densely populated old city area of Soldier Bazaar left their homes on Friday evening. S and Baig were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) in critical condition. However, families of Baig and S refused autopsy and took the bodies after completing legal formalities and paperwork.

Who could be the next army chief?
It was, perhaps, because of this reason that since 1997 only one army chief went home completing his three-year term. The outgoing Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa too was supposed to bid farewell to the army in November 2019 but he was also given an extension or he secured one. Under Supreme Court instructions, the Parliament had to amend the Constitution to legalise the extension in the services of the army chief. CGS is known as the de facto army chief since he heads both the operational and intelligence directorates in the army. Some speculate that the Pakistan Peoples Party wants Gen Amir to be considered for the army chief slot.

Pakistan reports 29 coronavirus cases, no death in 24 hours

According to the data released by NIH, 7561 corona tests were conducted during the last 24 hours, Out of which 29 people have tested positive for Corona. Thus, the rate of positive corona test conducted in the last 24 hours has been 0.38 percent. Moreover, no patient has died due to corona virus during this period, while the condition of 42 patients is critical.

Govt reaches out to PTI for dialogue
For the first time since coming to power, the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) federal government has initiated dialogue with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), sources told The Express Tribune. The sources said the president told him that his message would be conveyed to the PTI leadership. He, however, said that the party would not dispute the appointment of any general as the army chief. Political analysts have said that the new COAS will have many challenges such as the worsening economic situation due to political instability and PTI chief Imran Khan’s anti-establishment narrative. The PTI is expecting the new army chief to ensure early general elections while the PDM government wants their government to function smoothly until next September.

First lady inaugurates ‘Indus Heritage Trust’
First Lady Samina Alvi on Saturday inaugurated the new office of ‘Indus Heritage Trust’- a non-profit organisation engaged in preserving and promoting the country’s heritage of arts and crafts while empowering the communities. The facility aims to preserve and promote Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage and supporting women artisans from various parts of the country. The facility marked the display of various women-created products including shirts, jackets, shawls, jewellery, and bags besides homewares including embroidered cushions, mats, and tea cozies. The first lady took a round of the new office and appreciated the skills of the artisans which she believed would also help financially empower the women, particularly those living in the backward communities. Foreign firm denies rumours of selling Toshakhana gifts
In yet another turn of events in the Toshakhana controversy, the Styleoutwatches on Friday rejected rumours about the state gifts received by PTI chief Imran Khan, saying that they never bought or sold the Graff Mecca Map diamond MasterGraff Tourbillon minute repeater wristwatch. The statement came amid rumours on social media that Styleoutwatches had sold the watch for 250k USD in 2019. The company said that it had come to their attention through various public and media sources that their verified Instagram page is being used politically on various social media and public posts. He maintained that they did not sell the MasterGraff Tourbillon minute repeater watch that Imran Khan had taken from the Toshakhana. “Then, we returned the watch to the person and whatever happened before or after, we don’t know,” he clarified.
