Imran foresees chaos if detained again
Expressing fears that he might be arrested again, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan warned on Friday there would be no-one to control the masses if he was put behind bars. During an informal conversation with media representatives during his appearance at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on the instructions of the Supreme Court, Imran alleged the people were being pitted against the military. When asked further if he met anyone during the arrest, Imran replied that he did not meet anyone except his lawyer Khawaja Harris. A foreign journalist asked Imran whether his arrest was linked to his allegations against a serving military officer, the PTI chairman replied: “Those were not allegations, but facts”. The lawyers told the former prime minister that there were reports of 40 deaths during the violence but so far deaths of 21 people could be confirmed.

He said Imran Khan has been maligning the Army Chief from day one because when General Asim Munir was the DG ISI, he had unearthed the corruption syndicate of the PTI Chairman. The Prime Minister said Imran Khan has admitted of masterminding the tragic and disgraceful incidents of terrorism undertaken by the PTI goons at his behest. He said the desecration of the martyrs' monuments and attack on the national installations represent an unimaginable low in our politics.

Around the world, democrats watch with horror as their rivals snatch from them their most cherished principles and use them against them. Freedom of speech can now range from saying the N-word on air to posting terror manifestos online. To think that the pushback against such elements would undermine the Muslim identity of the country is preposterous. In the hour of the crisis of judgment, in gloom and moral dilemmas, I have a coping mechanism I can identify.

6 drug peddlers, bootleggers held; illegal weapons recovered
RAWALPINDI - The police in a crackdown against suspected drug peddlers, bootleggers and illegal weapon holders here on Friday arrested six accused besides recovering over 465 grams of hashish, five litres of liquor, three 30-bore pistols and ammunition from their possession. According to a police spokesperson, Dhamial police held Zafar for having 465 grams of hashish while Pirwadhai police rounded up Faisal with five litres of liquor and Airport police netted an accused namely Ali for possessing five bottles of liquor. Taxila, Saddar Wah, and Mandra police arrested Kalat Khan, Sajjad, and Bashir and recovered three 30-bore pistols and ammunition from their possession. Separate cases have been registered against all accused while further investigations were underway. City Police Officer had directed the police officers to accelerate ongoing operations against drug peddlers, bootleggers and other lawbreakers, he added.

Area softball teams do well in regionals
All three teams got started on Thursday and all of them advanced to the next round of the playoffs. The Moody Blue Devils took the most difficult road of all three teams, dropping their first game on Thursday morning with a 7-1 loss to the Scottsboro Wildcats. Ryleigh Hodges took the loss,giving up 7 runs on 4 hits and striking out 3 batters. Bella Turley got the win on the mound, going the distance and allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and striking out one. Georgia Chancellor pitched the complete game for Springville allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and striking out 2.

Unresolvable Crisis
However, Mr Khan should remember that this legal saga is far from over. On the other hand, the politico-legal crisis has only further deepened following the Supreme Court’s intervention on Thursday and the subsequent release of Mr Khan. What we need is dialogue and flexibility to ensure that this crisis can be addressed, and we can work towards conducting elections in the most fair and swift manner possible. Given the stiff postures and rhetoric on display however, no compromise seems likely and none of the institutions or leaders appear to have a roadmap for resolving this crisis. Until personal interests reign supreme, this crisis will only continue to grow and hold the country hostage.

The Information Minister said the government does not believe in political victimization. She said it was in the era of Imran Khan that the political leaders were arrested and put behind the bars. She also rejected claims that the government wanted to disqualify Imran Khan from running in this year’s election. However, she said Imran Khan during his tenure arrested political leaders, put them in jails and tried to silence their voices. To another question, Marriyum Aurangzeb said that after the issuance of a court order, it was his constitutional right to review or discuss the order.

During a conversation with media personnel in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), the former prime minister reportedly showed swelling and wounds on the back of his head, alleging that he was hit during his arrest. He said that NAB's treatment toward him was "alright" and reiterated that he was hit on the head with a baton during his arrest. During the conversation, NAB officials came to the PTI chief and announced their leave as he was “now in the custody of the Islamabad police”.

Churches in Trussville, Clay, Pinson, Moody vote to leave United Methodist Church
From Tribune staff reportsTRUSSVILLE — Church congregations in Trussville, Pinson, Clay and Moody have joined several hundred other churches in the North Alabama Conference in voting to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church. Former United Methodist Church congregations in Palmerdale, Clearview (Trussville), Springville, and Leeds, were granted disaffiliation from the UMC on December 10, 2022. A letter to congregants announcing that the United Methodist Church had approved the disaffiliation vote and explaining the steps forward was posted on the First Methodist Church of Trussville website on Thursday. “On April 23, 2023 our church voted to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church, and on May 11, 2023 the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church held a Called Special Session and approved our disaffiliation. While some congregations are expected to remain independent, many are expected to join the Global Methodist Church or the Free Methodist Church organizations.

He said that the PTI had gotten to know that NAB had formally initiated an investigation against Imran through media reports. In a video shared on social media by Independent Urdu, Imran further said: “I was sitting in the high court. “Why then are they so adamant to arrest Imran? Meanwhile, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Thursday that authorities would arrest Imran again. If he gets bail from the high court tomorrow, we will wait for the cancellation of bail and arrest him again,” he told Dunya TV.

Birmingham man shot and killed inside a vehicle Thursday night
From the Tribune staff reportsBIRMINGHAM – A Birmingham man was shot and killed while sitting inside a vehicle on Thursday, May 11, 2023. Around 9:50 PM, officers were dispatched to a call of shots fired in the 1400 Block of 33rd Street North. The victim, Erskin Irvin Jr., 37, of Birmingham was observed inside a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers arrived on the scene and Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. They went outside and discovered the victim inside his vehicle.
