ISLAMABAD - A large number of tourists from twin cities Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Friday thronged to Murree and other hilly resorts to enjoy cold weather and beat the scorching heat that has gripped various parts of the country. Talking to APP, Anita Ahsan, a resident of G-11, said that the intensive heat wave forced people of twin cities to visit hilly areas including Pathriyata, Nathia Gali, Ayubia and other places. Haroon Waheed, a resident of Rawalpindi, along with the family visited Murree and complained that owners of hotels, plazas and houses were overcharging from tourists. He further said that the authorities concerned should ensure cleanliness as international tourists were also visiting the spots. He said that substandard food is sold on eateries and other tourist sites, demanding strict actions against such responsible.

People burn electricity bills as they hold protest demonstration against inflated electricity bills in Peshawar’s Gunj Chowk on August 26, 2023. Protests against high electricity bills have grown after the caretaker government refused to slash energy prices without a nod from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). JI chief Sirajul Haq made the announcement of the nationwide strike during a news conference in Lahore on Friday as a means to protest against the oppressive electricity bills. After the nationwide strike, the organisation would consult other stakeholders to determine their next strategy. An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday sent lawyer and human rights activist Imaan Mazari on judicial remand and sought comments on her post-arrest bail petition in a case alleging that she had collected money for anti-state activities. Judge Abual Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain heard the case wherein the accused was produced after the end of her three-day physical remand. The court rejected the request, ordering to send Imaan to jail on judicial remand. The court ordered that Imaan would be kept in judicial custody at the Women police station in Islamabad till Saturday. KARACHI: Rangers and a Police specialized unit took action on a technical basis and successfully arrested two individuals allegedly extorting money in the name of a banned organization Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Friday. Sources within the police revealed that the arrested suspects – identified as Abdur Raheem and Farman – sent an extortion chit to a businessman with a Rs 500 note attached to it. In the extortion chit, the suspects demanded Rs 1.5 million as extortion money and threatened the businessperson to buy a shroud [Kafan] from the attached Rs 500 in case of non-payment of extortion. In a CCTV footage of the incident, the accused can be seen handing over the extortion chit to the employee of the said businessman and flee from the scene. Earlier to this, the Law enforcers arrested three suspected criminals during a search and combing operation in Orangi Town area.
