The prime minister, while presiding over a meeting of energy sector in Islamabad, issued firm directives to expedite actions against electricity defaulters. During the meeting, PM Kakar was briefed in detail about all sections of the energy sector. The prime minister was also informed about the energy mix in power production. The prime minister also directed to immediately start work on the construction of 2,400 MW solar power projects while ensuring transparency in the entire process. The government, he said would take all possible steps to reduce the circular debt of the power sector.

PML-N leader Atta Tarar said former chief minister Pervez Elahi and Moonis Elahi have to account for their corruption in Punjab. Tarar while talking to the media said around Rs120 billion were consumed in the master plan of Lahore alone. “Today there are talks of contempt of court on the police officers, what is the fault of the police officers”, he questioned. Passing such an order that the criminal should be dropped at home was the contempt of court in actual sense”, Tarar went on saying. Tarar while speaking said that a new tradition had been set that the accused persons in mega corruption cases were being escorted to their homes.

Pakistani nation, Army frustrated Indian aggression in 1965 war with full vigor: AJK President
The President expressed these views in his special message issued on the eve of Pakistan Defense Day falling on September 6. The September 1965 war, he said, was an enormous challenge that the nation faced with courage. “During the war, the Pakistan armed forces displayed their professional capabilities and successfully thwarted the aggressive ambitions of the enemy that is much bigger than their size”, he said. Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry said that our armed forces had the full support of the people in this war. He said that dialogue between India and Pakistan on the Kashmir issue would not be successful unless the persecution of the Kashmiris by the Indian forces was stopped.

The objective economists are convinced that the main reason for the ongoing electricity crisis in the country is the agreements signed with the IPPs between 1994 to 2005. The caretakers have simply put the IPPs review on the ‘Elected Government’ as if these agreements were not signed by the successive elected governments. Only a few blessed ones have seen the agreements that were signed by Islamabad with ‘foreign’ investors. Contrarily, the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan has been seen helpless in transferring his own staff. Under the circumstances, so what if the issues related to population growth, health and education are no longer under discussion.

Conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye, is on the rise in the city and neighbouring urban regions, according to the Sindh Health Department. This pink eye virus can be caused by viral and bacterial infections, or allergies. Bacterial conjunctivitis, which is more common in school-aged children than in adults, is known to occur from December to April. Symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis include redness, streaking, swelling, itching, or burning in the the eyes. Bacterial cases may also involve pus discharge from the eye and increased tearing, leading to the eyelids sticking together.

Govt urged to curb dollar outflow
Businessmen have urged the government to control dollar flight besides bridging the gap between inter-bank and open market exchange rates. “A widening divide between inter-bank and open market dollar rates and an uncontrolled dollar flight are posing a new challenge to the trade, industry and economy,” said Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Kashif Anwar in a statement. While calling it an alarming exchange rate gap, he stressed that it was causing significant economic repercussions and adversely affecting the competitiveness of various sectors. Citing examples of regional economies, the LCCI chief said that the difference between inter-bank and open market dollar rates in India was INR 0.13252, in Bangladesh, it was 0.25 taka and in the UAE it was AED 0.0006. Man killed in hit-and-run accident
KARACHI - An unidentified person was killed in hit-and-run accident in near Sohrab Goth area of the metropolis, police said on Saturday. According to details, a reckless driven vehicle crushed to death a pedestrian and sped the scene. The body was shifted to hospital for postmortem where identity of the deceased was yet to be ascertained. The police after registering a case against unidentified car driver, started investigation into the incident.

Prospects of TTP merger within Al-Qaeda
While the report largely focused on the activities of Al-Qaeda and ISIS, it also made a claim that TTP might merge with Al-Qaeda. The differences of orientation, limitations of Afghan Taliban regime and organisational aims and objectives point towards trajectory of distinct identity rather than prospects for merger. The top four jihadist outfits — Al-Qaeda, Afghan Taliban, TTP and IS-Khorasan — all had contesting aims and objectives, falling under two distinct jihadist ideologies. Any such merger will cause an Al-Qaeda “affiliate” attacking a US ally and a neighbouring country. Hence, the prospects for TTP to continue its distinct course are greater than the prospects of it merging within Al-Qaeda.

Warner-Saydee connection rallies Temple in second half for win over Akron, 24-21
Warner threw two touchdown passes to Edward Saydee including a fourth-quarter toss that gave Temple its first lead and the Owls held on to defeat Akron 24-21 on Saturday in a season opener. Temple went in front 24-21 on the second play of the fourth quarter via Warner’s 1-yard swing pass on fourth down to Saydee with Warner adding a two-point conversion toss to David Martin-Robinson. Warner’s 7-yard pass to Saydee got the Owls within 21-16 in the third quarter. Camden Price kicked a 40-yard field goal as time ran out in the first half to cut the lead to 21-10.
