Pakistan-China joint air exercise ‘Shaheen-X’ commences
ISLAMABAD: The annual Sino-Pak joint air exercise, Shaheen-X, has commenced in the Jiuquan and Yinchuan cities of Northwest China. HRCP concerned over uncertainty surrounding general elections
ISLAMABAD - The governing council of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has expressed concern over the uncertainty surrounding the general elections, as the ECP has started the process of delimitation of constituencies. The commission in a statement asked the top election regulatory to announce an election schedule that polls are held as close as possible to the stipulated 90-day period. The statement said the commission believed constituencies must also be completed quickly and efficiently and under no circumstances used as an excuse to delay the elections any further. HRCP is concerned by the scope for manipulating the electoral process by institutions such as NADRA and urges the ECP to guard against this possibility, it says. Moreover, the HRCP expressed its worries over the scope for manipulating the electoral process through institutions including the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and urged the commission to guard against this possibility.

KP LG dept fails to develop financial management system for TMAs
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Department has failed to develop a financial management system for the Town Municipal Administrations (TMAs) despite the passage of four years. The Local Government Amendment Act of 2019 approved the development of a financial management system for the TMAs. At present, the personal ledger accounts of all TMAs in the province are frozen, affecting their financial affairs. The LG department will contact the Accountant General directly for this purpose. In addition, the LG Department will ensure the necessary legal protection for the implementation of the financial management system in all TMAs in the province by June 2024.

PM Kakar, speaking to journalists at his official residence, said Saudi Arabia's investment would come in the mining, agriculture and information technology sectors, and was a part of a push to increase foreign direct investment in Pakistan. There was no immediate response to a Reuters request to the Saudi Arabian government for comment on Kakar's remarks. Recently Pakistan added struggling state-run Pakistan International Airlines to the privatisation list again.
