A big phasedown of ironsand-based steel production is on the cards at New Zealand Steel. This is the result of a conditional three-way environmental agreement between NZ Steel, the Government and Contact Energy. An extra $160 million will be paid by NZ Steel. The deal will also see NZ Steel slipping down the rankings of companies whose carbon costs are met by the Government. NZ Steel makes several common products in NZ including Colorsteel and Axxis steel framing.

By RNZPostal workers have uncovered a mail scam originating in Malaysia that appears identical to previous rackets, which have conned New Zealanders out of millions of dollars. “The scam mail is easily identified - a white envelope with colourful Malaysian stamps with the address being printed with the family name first,” Maynard said. Maynard said the union has alerted New Zealand Post to the latest fraud and it has undertaken to seize and destroy any scam mail arriving at the border.

Dear BBC of Stuff,We at OnEurope often write to you at round about this time of year to hand out constructive and blindingly obvious advice on what went right – or more often, wrong. It’s a rather different letter in 2023 because your contribution to the contest was so much bigger than usual. We wouldn’t have known where to start, you knew exactly where to start – two ordinary children brought together by the thrill of the moment. We know all about SVT, and SVT know all about us. Sell your performer first, then find the song to be a vehicle for your performer, then drive that vehicle like there’s no tomorrow.

The Queenstown Lakes District Council is unsure what to do with this four-bedroom Queenstown property it bought in 2021. PHOTOS: TRACEY ROXBURGHThe Queenstown Lakes District Council has spent almost $4 million on two central business district properties, one of which is destined to be demolished. Council spokesman Sam White said the council spent $2.2 million on Gilmore Lodge, a four-bedroom, four-bathroom, two-level property on the corner of Henry and Shotover Sts in December, 2021. She initially set up shop at 66 Stanley St, in a portion of the former SBS Bank site which was not required, moving four years later to the Shotover St site. "These could either be let as residential properties, or sold once the arterial project is complete."

Super Rugby Pacific: Blues ease Beauden Barrett long-term injury fears after All Blacks star's early exit against RedsSuper Rugby Pacific: Blues ease Beauden Barrett long-term injury fears after All Blacks star's early exit against Reds[Photo: stuff.co.nz]Blues coach Leon MacDonald has allayed any fears over a long-term injury to All Blacks first-five Beauden Barrett, who left the field injured in Friday's 45-26 victory over the Reds. Barrett, 31, didn't return for the second half in Brisbane as a potentially devastating blow to the All Blacks' plans for this year's Rugby World Cup in France. Up until that point, Barrett had been key for the Blues' 17-14 halftime advantage. A foot injury was cited as the reason for Barrett's early exit, however while an update from the Blues as to its severity will come, MacDonald can breathe a sigh of relief that his first-five hasn't suffered an injury to his knees, or previously troublesome Achilles. Meanwhile, Friday's win was key in boosting the Blues' hopes of a home semi-final.
