New Zealand high-tech firms attracted more inward investment last year despite the retrenchment of many major technology businesses overseas, according to an annual report. The Technology Investment Network report calculated that $726m was invested in large and small Kiwi tech companies in the 2022 calendar year. Investment was up by an inflation-beating 8.2% despite a global funding crunch that saw “total global venture funding” fall by an estimated 32% and 35%, it said. Tin research head Alex Dickson said the pool of investors funding technology businesses remained shallow and New Zealand businesses still needed to “work harder to attract the long arms and deep pockets of foreign investors”. James Pinner, chief investment officer of Government-backed venture capital business New Zealand Growth Capital Partners, cautioned 2022 probably marked a peak for investment in high-tech firms.

The government unveils biggest ever emissions reduction project, Covid booster uptake slows and why legal action could stop nurses from striking in the latest New Zealand Herald headlines. Video / NZ HeraldMost eligible New Zealanders have yet to get the new Covid-19 booster and an expert says lifting uptake is crucial to reducing the number of people hospitalised or killed by the virus this winter. As with that roll-out, weekly uptake rates of the bivalent booster have only reached as high as about 100,000. That was five times less than the height of uptake for the first Covid-19 vaccine - and four times less than peak uptake of the first booster. “This means getting your Covid-19 booster and your flu vaccine, and making sure your tamariki have all the vaccines they need to protect them.”People can book their Covid-19 booster online through bookmyvaccine.health.nz, or by calling Healthline on 0800 28 29 26.

A Stuff reporter at the scene said the victims suffered visible facial injuries while their attackers rejoined the procession. "Since the death of Raniel Kiu there has been an increase in Mongrel Mob members in the Palmerston North area," he said in a statement on Sunday. At just 900m, Timaru's State Highway 78 (SH78), also known as Port Loop Rd, is the country's shortest state highway. This looping route means it is believed to be the only state highway to cross over itself, without including motorways on and off ramps. According to Waka Kotahi, state highways are roads in New Zealand that are used deliberately to move people and goods throughout the whole country. The term state highway is different from local roads which are built and maintained by local authorities like councils. In second place for shortest state highway is SH44, at 5.2km short it runs straights through the North Island city of New Plymouth.

Manchester City fans gathered outside the Etihad Stadium to celebrate the title. If City win their last three games they will reach 94 points, not as many as the totals they achieved in 2017-18 and 2018-19, Guardiola's first two league titles. Manchester City players (from left) Bernardo Silva, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden celebrate during their decisive win over Arsenal at the end of April. "The Premier League is without doubt the most demanding and competitive league in the world so that tells you everything about what an achievement this is," he said. That quality and consistency helps sum up what Manchester City stand for and ensures the club will continue to strive for success going forward."
